Southern Chester County Soccer Association’s Under-12 Girls Soccer Travel Team – “Green Hornets ’99” – played back to back final matches at the United States Training Center in Downingtown,  over the past two weekends.

Over Memorial Day weekend, the team played five full length games in the Gold Division of the FC Delco Players Cup and took home the Championship, after defeating teams from New York, Massachusetts and Virginia.

Due to injuries, the team played its last three games with only 12 players on the pitch in 90 degree weather, yet managed to prevail each time.  The final match on Monday afternoon went through two overtimes and was ultimately won on penalty kicks (3 to1) with the team’s keeper stepping up to lace in the winning kick right after stopping the last two kicks from the opposing team.

The weekend before, the Green Hornets had played on the same field in the finals of the EPYSA Challenge Cup and come in second place.  To get to the finals of the Challenge Cup, the team defeated five other PAE (Pennsylvania East) teams.
