Echo spreads his wings in celebration with a group of CCDC Engle students
Excitement soared at the Child and Career Development Center Engle Campus (CCDC Engle) as students and staff came together for a high-energy celebration welcoming a bold new symbol of school pride: Echo the Eagle. On Friday, April 10, the campus at 107 Schoolhouse Road in West Grove came alive with cheers, anticipation, and school spirit during a pep rally marking the official debut of its first-ever mascot.
The energy was electric as students filled the gymnasium. At the peak of the excitement, the crowd joined in a spirited countdown before Echo – a vibrant blue and white eagle sporting a CCDC Engle T-shirt – burst through the doors to roaring applause. The moment was made even more special as a student, alongside his aide and the school’s principal, revealed the name “Echo” by flipping over a painted sign, cementing a new tradition for the school community.
The new mascot made his way around to each fan who wanted a hug, high five, or just a photo with their new feathered friend.
Echo the Eagle was chosen through a community-driven selection process in which students, staff, and families were invited to share their input and suggestions. The eagle was selected as a symbol of strength, focus, and the soaring potential that CCDC Engle strives to cultivate in every learner it serves.
“Echo will serve as a joyful reminder that every student’s voice matters, every success deserves to be celebrated, and every member of our school community belongs here. Seeing our students light up with happiness and pride was a powerful reminder of why school culture matters,” said CCDC Engle Principal Dr. Shannon Brown. “Moments like today help create lasting memories, strengthen relationships, and give students experiences that inspire connection and joy. We are incredibly proud of this milestone and grateful to everyone who helped make it possible. The future is bright at CCDC Engle, and with Echo leading the way, we know this is only the beginning of many exciting traditions to come.”
CCDC Engle is the second CCDC campus to open. Like the original Coatesville location, the school offers services to learners with special needs across grades K-12. This second campus officially opened for the 2025-26 school year, creating a neighborhood school space for learners in the southern part of Chester County, and reducing busing time by more than an hour for many. This campus expansion, localizing much-needed educational services, is set to continue with the anticipated opening of the CCDC Great Valley campus in the fall of 2026. With a dedicated team of teachers and staff, all CCDC campuses – present and future – provide a caring, nurturing environment where learners of all abilities are empowered to reach their personal best.
Today’s pep rally marks a milestone in the school’s ongoing commitment to building a strong, inclusive school culture.
