All ready for Sunday’s Pocopson Founders’ Day

Annual community event kicks off Sunday at noon, fun for the entire family

State Rep. Steve Barrar (R-160) digs right in to milk a cow during the 2010 Founders' Day. In addition to various elected officials milking cows, there will lots of fun things for the whole family at the 2011 Founders Day — free to the public.

POCOPSON — Founders Day Chair Bev Bruns reported that everything is set for the fifth annual event to be held this Sunday, Sept. 18th, from 12 noon to 4 pm at Pocopson Park on Locust Grove Road.

She excitedly described final plans for hay rides to historic Barnard House, where the Kennett Underground Railroad Center will set up shop to talk about the role Pocopson Township played in offering safe passage for escaping slaves.

She noted that State Representative Steve Barrar (R-160) and Chester County Commissioners, Terence Farrell and Ryan Costello are scheduled to attend.

There will be live music, many children’s activities, food and treats.

Highlights for the day include Stubby, the traveling helicopter — new for 2011 — and the greatly anticipated Supervisors’ cow milking contest with Baily Dairy’s award-winning cows. — KELLY SIEHL
