Authorities are seeking information about how this pit bull/terrier mix may have been shot and wounded on or about Dec. 30, 2014. The animal survived the injury and is recovering in a foster home.

WEST CHESTER — The Chester County SPCA (CCSPCA) is currently seeking information with regard to a dog brought to Glenmoore Veterinary Hospital with a suspected gunshot wound on December 30, 2014.

A female Pit Bull Terrier mix, estimated to be seven months of age, was brought to the hospital with a wound to the chest by a concerned citizen.  Glenmoore Veterinary Hospital provided immediate medical treatment for shock and took abdominal and thoracic x-rays of the dog.  She was then picked up by a CCSPCA Animal Control Officer.  Upon her arrival at the CCSPCA, the dog had exploratory surgery to assess damage more thoroughly and rule out any internal bleeding.  The CCSPCA’s veterinarian found that her wounds were consistent with entry and exit wounds from a bullet.

“Animal cruelty will not be tolerated, and we’re hopeful that the public can assist us in holding the perpetrator accountable,” said Adam Lamb, Executive Director of the Chester County SPCA.

The dog is part of a joint, ongoing investigation by both the Pennsylvania State Police as well as the Chester County SPCA’s Animal Protective Services Department.  She is currently recovering in a protective foster home; additional x-rays will be needed in one month to ensure that no permanent damage was caused by her injury.

If the public has any further information with regard to the events surrounding this incident, please contact the Animal Protective Services Department of the Chester County SPCA at 610-692-6113, extension 213.  Reports may be left anonymously and can be made 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Chester County SPCA is raising money to be used as a reward for information leading to the apprehension of the person or persons responsible for committing this act of animal cruelty. The shelter is also seeking donations to help to defray of costs of caring for the dog as she recovers from her injuries. To make a contribution, please visit http://www.ccspca.org/donate.
