Emergency preparedness moving full steam ahead

County to distribute tips, information at area train stations

Commuter alert: If someone tries to hand you a newspaper at the train station tomorrow morning from 6 to 9 a.m., they may be county employees, not solicitors.

September is National Preparedness Month, and the Chester County Department of Emergency Services will be distributing safety information at area train stations, one of the many local observances planned during this national campaign.

Sponsored by the Ready Campaign and local emergency management organizations, this year’s National Preparedness Month will focus on strengthening communities through public events and online outreach.  Preparedness events and information can be found on http://www.ready.gov/community.

Materials will be distributed at the Thorndale Train Station, 3112 E. Lincoln Hwy., Coatesville; Exton station, 435 Walkertown Rd., Exton; Malvern station, 61 N. Warren Ave., Malvern; and Paoli station, 31 N. Valley Rd., Paoli.

County officials want to remind residents that emergencies can happen anytime and anywhere without notice.  Households, businesses and organizations should prepare to be self-reliant for three days without utilities, electricity, or water, without access to a supermarket or local services or maybe even without response from police, fire or rescue.  Recommendations include making an emergency plan and assembling a supply kit.
