EAST MARLBOROUGH — The Unionville-Chadds Ford School District Board of Education voted Monday night to approve a change in school start times, delaying the start of the school day by 25 minutes, beginning with the 2017-18 school year.
The move comes after years of study of the impact on sleep on teenagers — the changes were drive by a desire to allow teens to get more sleep, officials said. The new high school/middle school school day will start at 8 a.m., instead of the current 7:35. The school day will end at 2:43 p.m. For elementary students, school will start at 9:10 a.m. and end at 3:40 p.m.
It remains unclear what the impact will be on scholastic sports, working parents and high school students with after school jobs.
