ABERDEEN, MD. — The Unionville Recreation Association under-10 tournament baseball team got the full Ripken treatment this weekend, including a chance to meet Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr.

The Unionville team was at the sprawling Ripken complex to compete in the Diamond Tournament this past weekend. The stadium complex includes a minor league baseball facility, as well as numerous fields and even a youth baseball stadium, where the annual Ripken Baseball finals are held.

While they were there to compete — Unionville teams have been very successful in district Ripken tournaments in recent years — the team’s experience was highlighted by the opportunity to shake hands, talk and have their picture taken with the legendary Baltimore Oriole and 19-year All-Star, who was busy at work helping maintain the facility, in his role as CEO of Ripken Baseball.
