WEST CHESTER — Brandywine New Media, LLC is announcing the addition of highly-respected journalist Kathleen Brady Shea as an equity partner and she has been named Managing Editor for the company’s growing group of community news sites.

Shea covered Chester County as a reporter for the The Philadelphia Inquirer since 2001, after joining the paper in 1993. Previously, she worked for The Daily Local News of West Chester, The News Journal of Wilmington, Del., as well as USA Today in Washington D.C.

“We are thrilled to be able to add a professional journalist of the caliber of Kathy to our operation,” said Brandywine New Media’s president Mike McGann. “Her range of skills, experience and general knowledge of the Chester County area is second to none and will immediately be appreciated by our increasing reader base.”

Shea said the massive changes going on the publishing world make this an exciting time to embrace digital publishing.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to help fill what had been an increasing gap in news coverage here in Chester County,” Shea said. “While I mourn what appears to be the end of print journalism in the coming years, I recognize the reality that a new generation of digital news-gathering needs to be embraced. What Brandywine New Media has started represents the future of community journalism.”

Brandywine New Media currently owns and operates three community news sites, The Unionville Times, The Kennett Times and The Coatesville Times. Since launching its community news operation in October, 2010, it has become the fastest-growing news outlet in Chester County. All three are top-million sites in web traffic as cited by Alexa.com, Amazon.com’s Web traffic rating service.

Brandywine New Media, LLC is a closely held company based in West Chester, Pa. The company is actively seeking strategic partners and other opportunities to help it grow and add additional coverage areas to our portfolio of community news sites.
