Indians make quick work of Conestoga, ready for show down with Fords

Unionville leadership will be key to beating Haverford and advancing in playoffs By Dave Conard, Sports Editor UnionvilleTimes.com

Captain Colleen Elvin, sets the tone defensively for the Indians.

WEST CHESTER—It didn’t take long for the Indians to rebound from a disappointing tie in their last outing as Unionville took the ice against Conestoga.

An 8-0 shelaquing works better than a huge bottle of Listerine, washing the bitter taste of sub par performance and following the whitewashing of the Pioneers, the Indians are now poised for the biggest game of the year.

Morgan Wilm got the scoring started with two first period goals only three minutes apart as a Unionville began an assault on the Conestoga net that would lead to a 4-0 lead after one period en route to a 50-5 edge in shots on goal.

Senior net minder and freshman keeper Jenna Lisicky (1.03 GAA, .830 save percentage) and Lillian Jones (.24 GGA, .973 save percentage) combined for the shut out in goal, Unionville’s eighth of the season, as the only statistical category that Conestoga led was the power play battle as the Pioneers did not record a penalty, while Unionville committed four minor infractions, giving Conestoga four plays.

Sarah O’Neil (6 goals, 7 assists) posted two tallies to give the Indians a 6-0 advantage and helped on a goal by team leading scorer Lyndsey Wenzel (17 goals, 7 assists) to help lead the blue and gold set up a show down with Haverford (12-1-0) this Saturday night, with the top spot in the Ches-Mont League standings at stake.

Unionville leading scorer Lyndsey Wenzel takes a break between shifts.

Having suffered their only loss of the season at the hands of the Fords, Unionville (10-1-1) is ready to exact it’s revenge as the playoffs loom closer and they prepare to fight for the right to be the first team to three-peat as Flyers Cup champions.
