Commissioners join Surrey Services for Seniors in delivering lunches and thanking veterans

Chester County Commissioners Josh Maxwell, Marian Moskowitz and Michelle Kichline deliver Grab and Go lunches and thanks to veterans at Surrey Services for Seniors, during one of the weekday drive-through lunch collections by local seniors.

DEVON — Chester County Commissioners Marian Moskowitz, Josh Maxwell and Michelle Kichline joined staff, board members and volunteers from Surrey Services for Seniors this week, to deliver lunches to seniors, and to hand out flags in honor the County’s veterans.

More than 430 seniors regularly participate in Surrey Services’ weekday “Grab and Go” lunches at the organization’s Devon center, funded in part by the County’s Department of Aging Services.  Additionally, the organization continues to work with community partners such as Meals on Wheels and the Department of Aging Services to continue home delivered meals.

“We are grateful to the County Commissioners for approving more than $31,000 to support our nutrition programs, including the Grab and Go lunches,” said Christi Seidel, President and CEO of Surrey Services for Seniors.  “These funds have also helped us to adapt during this pandemic, to ensure our seniors continued to receive lunches.

“Every weekday, volunteers and staff prepare the food and pack it so that our seniors can pull up in their cars, roll down the window and have meals placed safely in their car,” added Seidel. “Our members love chatting and connecting with us from the safety of their cars, as much as they appreciate receiving the meals.”

In addition to delivering meals in the drive-through operation, the Commissioners and Surrey Services took time to note the actions and efforts of Chester County’s veterans, handing out flags, candy and thanks along with the lunches.  This community recognition is just one part of a week of events that Surrey Services for Seniors is undertaking to honor veterans.
