KENNETT – Wednesday night’s brief meeting of the Kennett Township Board of Supervisors was a mix of old and new business, including an announcement about the reopening of a favorite bridge.

Vice-Chair Whitney Hoffman led the meeting in the absence of Chairman Scudder Stevens. Also present were Supervisor Richard Leff, Township Manager Lisa Moore, Road Manager Roger Lysle, and Police Chief Lydell Nolt.

During the meeting, Hoffman confirmed that the Burnt Mill Road bridge over a branch of the Red Clay Creek was reopened on Friday, Jan. 13, with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, after having been under repair for two-and-a-half years by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). Hoffman commended State Rep. Steve Barrar (R-160) for the effort he put in at on the Township’s behalf with state to help get the repair project completed.

“It took a long time to do this, and they did a great job,” Hoffman said. “Steve Barrar did a great job advocating for the fixing of the bridge, and it bodes well that we all get along well.”

In his Police Chief report, Nolt provided year-end totals for 2016 for crime statistics in Kennett Township. According to Nolt, there were 4,854 police incidents, 672 citations, 38 non-traffic citations, 54 criminal arrests, and 66,415 patrol miles logged for 2016. Hoffman commended Nolt for the number of patrol miles.

Nolt’s report also included the announcement of two upcoming public safety forums focused on reducing crimes against senior citizens. One forum will be on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 10 am at the William Penn Auditorium, at Crosslands, and the other will be on Tuesday, February 21 at 10 a.m. at Kendal at Longwood.

Both forums are open to the public; questions can be submitted prior to either event to KTPD@kennett.pa.us, or given directly to the moderator at the forum. For more information, please call 610-388-2874, extension 124.

Other new business items included the proposal by Lisa Moore of Resolution 2017-8, which is the addition of two alternates to the Township Planning Commission, effective immediately through December 2020. The resolution to appoint residents Cheryl O’Sullivan and Shawn Knudson as alternates was brought to a vote and was passed.
