ASTON — On Tuesday night, in the first round of the District 1 Boys Lacrosse Playoffs, the Unionville Indians(19) showed true grit in upending the Penncrest Lions(14) at Neumann University.

Although Penncrest took the early lead, Mike Sundry wasted no time in sprinting from the defense with the ball to score and tie the game. Soon after, Billy Donovan added a goal to take the lead. From that point on, the score continued to fluctuate throughout the game with Penncrest holding a 7-6 lead with under three minutes to play. Seconds later, Richard Kaiser added to his 2 goals and 1 assist with a third, game-tying goal. The last two minutes of regulation were the most intense of the game, with ample fans from both sides cheering hard. However, no one scored and the game went into overtime.

It didn’t take long for the Indians to take the offensive. In a beautiful display of teamwork, Mike Sundry passed the ball to James Moss, who after a quick advance found Max Kelly in front of the net, where he put away the game-winning goal.

Immediately the blue-clad Indians were congregating in the middle of the field for a team celebration.

Billy Donovan had 2 goals of his and Riley Piper added a goal to the total as well. Chris Baker had an outstanding game in the net with 13 saves.

The Indians will take on 3-seeded Downingtown West, a league foe, Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Downingtown’s home stadium.
