KHS’ Humanitarian Club hosts summer reading fun

‘Books, Bytes & Bites’ – FREE for area students

The Kennett High School Humanitarian Club has initiated a new summer program called “Books, Bytes, and Bites” at the high school. The club is also volunteering at Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center to assist students there.

The Kennett High School’s library media center will be open from 10:30 AM through 12:30 PM, Tuesdays through Thursdays, June 30 through July 30. During this time, students can come to the library to read, check out a book, use the computers, and eat a snack. Members of the Humanitarian Club will be there every day to volunteer their assistance and make sure the library is accessible.humanitarian library graphic

The Humanitarian Club will also be delivering snacks to students at Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center, Mondays through Thursdays, July 6 through August 6. Members of the Humanitarian Club will volunteer time in the morning hours to organize and deliver food to students in their classrooms.

Olivia Pagliaro and Ben Skross are chairing the “Books, Bytes, and Bites.” Ms. Lisa Teixeira, KHS librarian and Humanitarian Club adviser, and Mrs. Jean O’Neil, KCSD volunteer and retired KHS business teacher, will be supervising the program at the high school. Krishna Pathak, Kavya Shetty, and Marisa Maxwell, Kennett graduates and Humanitarian Club past presidents, will be directing the program at Mary D. Lang.

Lisa Teixeira noted, “The Kennett community is extremely supportive of our school district. The Kennett Area Community Service (KACS), sponsor of the Kennett Food Cupboard, helped secure the food donations from the Chester County Food Bank which used grant money to purchase the food that our students will enjoy. We are very grateful for their participation in our program.”

“As Humanitarian Club members, we are very excited about this new initiative which will make a difference in our community,” said Marisa Maxwell.
