Region VI band festival, March 15 at UHS

MusicEAST MARLBOROUGH — Unionville High School be the host of the 2014 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Region VI Band Festival.  One hundred twenty-eight students have advanced from the district competition to form a collective concert band from 46 high schools in the 5-county area.

After a number of days of practice, the band will give a public performance, Sat. March, 15 at the high school auditorium. Tickets are $6, students and seniors are $4. Chiuldren under 5 are free. the show begins at 2:30 p.m.

The group of young musicians will gather at the school to perform selections including Andante and Tranquillo, Short Ride in a Fast Machine, Saucedo’s 1st movement of his First Symphony for Band, When Jesus Wept, El Camino Real and the Star Spangled Banner.

The student musicians will participate in marathon rehearsals  running Thursday through Saturday to perfect a sound that organizers say will rival university-level performers.

Guest Conductor Richard L. Saucedo, who has had a 31-year award-winning band director from Indiana, is a freelance arranger and composer known for his numerous marching band arrangements, concert band works and choral compositions.
