High school to host two community programs

One involves ‘Queen of Water’ author, the other,  Lincoln

Community members are encouraged to read The Queen of Water along with the students and attend the visit with Laura Resau.

The Queen of Water co-author   Laura Resau will visit Unionville High Wednesday for an evening of  conversation.

Two free events this week at Unionville High will provide area residents with options for  educational entertainment.

The  “One Book One Unionville” initiative will culminate with an author event and book-signing. During the summer, all Unionville High school students, along with members of the community, were asked to read the same book: The Queen of Water by Laura Resau and Maria Virginia Farinango. On Wednesday at 7 p.m., the public is invited to join Resau at the high school for a free evening of conversation.

On Thursday, residents can celebrate President Lincoln with an evening that focuses on the leader known as “Honest Abe,” the Underground Railroad, and the Civil War. Highlights of the free program, which will run from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium, will include the award-winning movie “Lincoln,” guest speakers and a panel discussion.
