Pucker up: Victory’s Monkey gets sour variant

Victory Brewing Company (Victory) announces the arrival of Sour Monkey in a new format January 1 – just in time to celebrate the season. As part of the celebration, the beloved national brewery is also introducing an extremely limited run of their new Sour Monkey Remix.

Sour Monkey, the tastefully tart twist on Victory’s most popular beer–the Belgian-style tripel Golden Monkey made its debut in Spring 2015 and has since become equally popular and in-demand. The sour, Brettanomyces-fermented tripel combines juicy Tettnang and Hallertau whole flower hops with Pilsner malt and coriander seed before adding the fun and funk of the secondary fermentation with two strains of Brettanomyces yeast. Sour Monkey delighted fans of Golden Monkey and sour beer lovers for the short time it was available. Because of its popularity, Victory brought Sour Monkey back in 2016, but only for a season and only in 750 ml bottles. 2017 marks the first time for Sour Monkey’s availability in 12 oz. bottles. Rest assured, it will carry the same sour punch with an ABV of 9.5% to keep the party going. Available throughout Victory’s 35 state distribution footprint, Sour Monkey six packs retail at $11.99, depending on location.

Adding to the Monkey mania, beginning on January 20 and found exclusively at all three Victory brewpubs, Sour Monkey Remix takes the Golden Monkey transformation a step further by aging Sour Monkey in oak barrels. Aromas of white oak and vanilla accompany the blonde, slightly hazy pour. Tart, lemon flavors and oak from the barrels make for a very balanced and drinkable beer with a bone-dry finish. Sour Monkey Remix is available for an extremely limited time on tap and in 750 ml bottles for $22 at the Downingtown, Kennett Square and Parkesburg brewpubs.
