Unionville football, Mulch-It teaming up

Get your yard mulched, help the Indians football program

By Hannah Christopher, Staff Writer, UnionvilleTimes.com

Multch-It! and the Unionville High School football team are teaming up on a fundraiser, with 10 percent of your order going to the football team.

It’s spring: the peepers are peeping, the wild cabbage is sprouting in the woods, the crack of the baseball bat is heard and young and old lovers are holding hands on long, lovely walks throughout our town.

It is also time to contact www.mulch-it.com to order your mulch and beautify your gardens and yards.  The best part of this mulching project is all you have to do is make the phone call.

If you call MULCH IT  at 610-793-5999 and mention Unionville football , the team will get  ten percent donated  back to the Quarterback Club.(the booster club for the Indians)  MULCHIT is owned by the Pancoast family, who have a son that  plays for Unionville football.  In addition to ordering mulch a request may be made  to have the football team  offer up some of their strong and healthy young men to help spread the mulch in your yard.

Brad Barnes a parent of triplets, two of them UHS football players, has headed up the mulching project for the Quarterback Club for his second year in a row, with the help of Head Coach, Pat Clark.  Barnes says, “We don’t turn anyone away that would like to have their yard mulched.”  He continues, “The football players participate in the work because they know it benefits the program.  The money that we collect from doing the mulching work goes directly to pay for necessary items for the football team.”   (The team only mulches until the end of the school year.)

Here is what the money raised through Mulch It and the spreading of mulch goes to pay for the Indians football team.

  • Banquet/trophies
  • Football equipment (not funded by the school)
  • Patton Middle School football support
  • Senior Night
  • Game filming
  • Senior Plaques/Photo Album
  • Junior Football Jackets
  • Scholarships
  • Assistant coaches & conditioning help

When asked about the benefits to the players by doing this work on their weekends Barnes stated, “It is a team building exercise.  It allows strong young men to help move 15 yards of mulch in 2 hours or less.  I don’t know about most homeowners, but it takes an entire weekend to move 10 yards of mulch by myself.  The young men work as a team to complete the job, and also have a sense of ownership for their work. Young men working as a team moving mulch helps them work as a team in the fall.”

Mostly the football players do this work during the weekend and with the help of Coach Clark, parent supervisors and lots of tools brought from home the jobs are done rather efficiently. Coach Clark, Brad Barnes and the parental supervisors make sure that the job is done to the satisfaction of the customers. We ask the homeowners to walk the property when they are finished and ask them if they are happy with the work that has been done.  Barnes stated, “We also ensure that we clean up after the job is done.”

Consequently the Unionville Indians football team is working hard already to build their team, in preparation for the field next autumn.    If you would like to order mulch, go to   www.mulch-it.com  or call 610-793-5999 or 1-800-95-mulch and to get the healthy, strong Indians out to spread mulch contact Brad Barnes via email   BBarnes@cephalon.com or Coach Clark at   PClark@ucfsd.org
