Pocopson Township Board of Supervisors Chair Steve Conary is retiring, and was praised during his final regular meeting on the board.

POCOPSON — It looks like construction of the Route 52, Lenape-Unionville and Wawaset Road roundabout will go into the 2014-15 school year, township Public Works Director Mark Knightly announced during the recent Board of Supervisors’ meeting.

Knightly said PECO and Verizon are trying to schedule their portion of the work to coincide with the state’s three planned stages of the project but failure to do so may cause a delay in this week’s projected start date.

Both state and township officials were trying to plan the project so it would only affect the latter part of the 2013-2014 school year but with recent scheduling setbacks, Knightly said the project will encroach on the next school year as well. He told supervisors that the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District is aware of the delay and will “change bus routes accordingly.”

The meeting closed on a somber note as Supervisors’ Vice Chair, Georgia Brutscher thanked Chair Steve Conary for his “six years and many, many hours serving this township.” Conary will finish his tenure on the board at the end of the year and this was his last regular meeting.

Conary announced last January that he would not be seeking re-election because he and his family planned to undertake some new endeavors. He said he is extremely satisfied with the many projects the township has completed during his time in office.

Brutscher said Conary “put us on a positive fiscal path we did not have” prior to Conary’s election to the board. Brutscher added that she hoped he would remain “somewhat available” in the future.

Conary has one more meeting to attend in his supervisory role on Monday, December 30.  Officials will announce their decision on the conditional use application submitted by Mary Beth Drobish and The Barn at Spring Brook Farm, Inc., for an educational use at 350 Locust Grove Road.

The special meeting will take place at the township office, 740 Denton Hollow Road, at 5pm. Further information is available on the township website, www.pocopson.org, or by calling 610-793-2151.

The annual township organizational meeting is Jan. 6 at 7:30pm.
