PHILADELPHIA — The Unionville High School Swimming and Diving team had great success over the past weekend at the PIAA District I Championships.
Six swimmers and one diver will be advancing to the State Championships, which will be held at Bucknell University from March 15-16th.
Senior Erin Polries had a fantastic performance in the 500 Free breaking her own school record with a time of 5:06.94 and placing fourth overall, which earned her an automatic spot at states. She also placed 12th in the 200 Free event. Laura Barthold placed 9th in the 200 Free and broke the school record with a time of 154:56. She also placed 7th in the 500 Free with a time of 5:09.74 and will be competing in both events at the State Championship. Greg Buckley qualified individually by placing 8th in the 100 Fly with a time of 52.73. Freshman Kate Evanko will be advancing on the 400 Medley Relay along with Mackenzie Hornibrook, Polries and Barthold. The relay placed 3rd overall and broke the school record with a time of 3:33.05. Junior diver, Makayla Mawn placed 10th overall at the District One Diving Championship and will also be competing at Bucknell.
The following swimmers also had great performances at the District meet: Erin Himes (23rd 500 Free), Christina Tascione (28th 100 Breast), Victoria Bunting (31st 200IM), Lauren Stabler (31st 100 Fly), Katie Garvey (21st 50 Free), Lindsey Hewton (33rd 100 Back), Kate Evanko (29th 50 Free and 31st 100 Free). The 200 Free Relay of Katie Garvey, Molly Wentz, Evanko, and Quinn Benintende placed 13th. The 200 Medley Relay of Lindsey Hewton, Christina Tascione, Laura Barthold and Mackenzie Hornibrook placed 9th.
Greg Buckley (12th 100 Back), Chris Barthold (34th 200 Free, 23rd 500 Free), Tommy Ferree (38th 100 Breast), Ben Halkowski (11th 200IM, 13th 100 Back), Jason Smiddy (38th 200 Free), Reid Henzel (21st 50 Free, 34th 100 Free). The 200 Medley Relay of Halkowski, Ferree, Buckley and Smiddy placed 20th. The 200 Free Relay Barthold, Ferree, Smiddy, Henzel placed 22nd.
