{"id":9780,"date":"2012-06-10T06:00:41","date_gmt":"2012-06-10T10:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=9780"},"modified":"2012-06-09T07:44:17","modified_gmt":"2012-06-09T11:44:17","slug":"words-of-wisdom-for-new-grads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=9780","title":{"rendered":"Words of wisdom for new grads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Enjoy yourself, but consider this short list of do&#8217;s and don&#8217;ts<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>By Kelly Hockenberry<\/strong>, <span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><em>Columnist, UnionvilleTimes.com<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/UTKellyColumn1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-9782\" title=\"UTKellyColumn\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/UTKellyColumn1-250x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"175\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/UTKellyColumn1-250x300.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/UTKellyColumn1-83x100.jpg 83w, https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/UTKellyColumn1.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 175px) 100vw, 175px\" \/><\/a>Dear Graduating Class of 2012,<\/p>\n<p>I will keep my commencement address short and sweet.\u00a0 I know that you are anxious to venture out into the world\u2026a world much bigger than our rural little piece of the planet.\u00a0 But, before you do, remember the following:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Call your parents at least once a week.\u00a0 They will miss you terribly and have sacrificed much to get you where you are today.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Party, yes.\u00a0 But, act responsibly because the pictures of you posted to Facebook with your head in the toilet will last forever in cyber space.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Resist the urge to get a tattoo during Senior Week.\u00a0 That skull with roses for eyes will not look so chic with the passage of time\u2026and laser removal hurts like hell.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Make new friends but keep the old.\u00a0 This adage is so very true.\u00a0 I have a core group of girlfriends that have been with me since kindergarten.\u00a0 There is something very comforting about people who really knew you way back when.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Study HARD.\u00a0 It may seem that the light at the end of that scholarly tunnel is quite faint;
