Fahey Post 491 managed and put together the event, which has grown considerably over the last decade after becoming nearly extinct during the 1990s.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9454\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/KennParade6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9454\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9454 \" style=\"border: 2px solid navy; margin: 4px;\" title=\"KennParade6\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/KennParade6-300x246.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"246\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-9454\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A salute from the driver of a vintage anti-personnel vehicle.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While the event was intended to honor all military veterans, as usual, local residents who served were selected to be honored as the parade\u00a0grand Marshals:\u00a0\u00a0Donald Curry of West Chester (U.S. Army), Walter C. Brun of Glen Mills (U.S. Army), Alfred J. Cocciolone, Sr. of West Grove (U.S. Army), and Patrick M. Canfield of Wilmington, DE (U.S. Air Force).\u00a0All four were highlighted in special vehicles during the parade and honored during post-parade ceremonies afterward.<\/p>\n<p>As usual, there were many familiar groups \u2014 the Kennett High School and Unionville High School marching bands are staples of the annual event, as an example \u2014 but there were some notable new additions for the 2012 version of the parade.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9456\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/KennParadeU1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9456\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9456  \" style=\"border: 2px solid navy; margin: 4px;\" title=\"KennParadeU1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/KennParadeU1-300x258.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"258\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-9456\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Po-Mar-Lin firefighter waves to the crowd.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>One highlight was an appearance by the Joseph A. Ferko Mummers String Band from Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>Joining Ferko as new participants in the parade were the Amerikids Youth Chorus, with school students from throughout\u00a0Chester County, an antique helicopter from the American Helicopter Museum, and the\u00a0Penn Dixie Band.\u00a0 Returning after at least a one-year hiatus included the Delaware Military\u00a0Academy Band and Color Guard and the Kennett High School Alumni Band.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9460\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/KennParade2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9460\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9460 \" style=\"border: 2px solid navy; margin: 4px;\" title=\"KennParade2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/KennParade2-300x263.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"263\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-9460\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vintage farm tractors on parade, harkening to the rich agricultural history of the area.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>More typically, local emergency responders turned out in force, including fire units from Kennett Fire Company, Longwood Fire Company and Po-Mar-Lin. Boy Scouts were there in force, including their typical position leading off the parade, as well as the local Service Unit for the Girl Scouts, which covers the Unionville-Chadds Ford and Kennett school districts.<\/p>\n<p>There were both Revolutionary War and Civil War reenactors and military hardware and vehicles from across U.S. history.
