If your math doesn’t quite add up, simple advice: fake it<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Beyonc\u00e9 was just named People Magazine\u2019s \u201cMost Beautiful Woman in the World\u201d.<\/p>\n

And, in other shocking news, the Pope is Catholic.<\/p>\n

While it\u2019s no big surprise that Beyonc\u00e9 is a gorgeous cover girl, I recently read an article about the \u201cmathematics of beauty\u201d that did astonish me.<\/p>\n

Did you know that the symmetry of a person\u2019s face contributes to their overall rating of attractiveness?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s true!<\/p>\n

In fact, the ancient Greeks devised a formula to measure beauty.\u00a0 \u201cThe Golden Rule\u201d of 1:1.618 was determined to be the perfect ratio of the width of the nose to the width of the mouth.\u00a0 Likewise, the ultimate distance between the hairline to the nose and the nose to the chin is\u2026.you guessed it\u2026.1:1.618.<\/p>\n

Now, I am taking these Greeks on their word because that math makes ZERO sense to me.\u00a0 I may have graduated from high school with AP Calculus on my transcript, but, anything higher than single digit addition or subtraction is just a random gibberish of numbers. (If you don\u2019t believe me, ask my 5th<\/sup> grader.\u00a0 He\u2019ll tell ya.)<\/p>\n

The bottom line (mathematical equation, notwithstanding) is that the more symmetrical the face, the prettier the person.<\/p>\n

So, what to do if you were not blessed with a 1:1.618 ratio?\u00a0 I say: fake It.<\/p>\n

If you have one lip that is fatter than the other, lip liner is your magic wand!<\/p>\n

Now, normally I am not a fan of lip liner.\u00a0 Not because I do not think that it is a useful tool to enhance the mouth\u2026but, rather, because the wrong application can have disastrous results.\u00a0 Choose a color that is one shade darker than your natural lip.\u00a0 With a gentle hand, you can extend the outline of the upper (or lower) lip to eliminate asymmetry.\u00a0 *WARNING: this is an \u201cadvanced\u201d make-up application.\u00a0 If you have ANY doubt as to the correct color, please consult a professional.\u00a0 You do not want to look like you drank a glass of Kool-Aid outside the confines of your mouth like you did when you were five.<\/p>\n

Next problem\u2026<\/p>\n

If your nose is too wide, use concealer on either side to create the illusion of length.\u00a0 Easy and effective!<\/p>\n

As for the whole \u201chairline to nose to chin\u201d part, unless you are willing to invest in a nose job or some sort of chin implant (OUCH and ewwww) there\u2019s no real solution that I can think of.<\/p>\n

Guess that\u2019s why some people are on covers of magazines and others just write about them…<\/p>\n
