Pension bill finds new life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Under heavy fire, Democratic leaders schedule house votes for Monday<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>By Mike McGann<\/strong>,<span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><em> Editor, UnionvilleTimes.com<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_831\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/StateCapital.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-831\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-831\" title=\"StateCapital\" src=\"http:\/\/unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/StateCapital-300x287.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"287\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-831\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Democrats have reversed themselves and now will allow a vote on a state pension reform bill.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It appears that the reports \u2014 including here \u2014 of the death of the pension reform bill turned out to be premature \u2014 state House Speaker Keith McCall has relented and will allow the pension bill and a handful of other bills come up for a vote next week.<\/p>\n<p>That means that there is now still some hope that school districts such as Unionville may get some minor break on pension costs in the next couple of years \u2014 and some longer-term relief in terms of pension costs.<\/p>\n<p>McCall, and outgoing Democratic Majority Leader Todd Eachus came under withering fire \u2014 largely from their own party and the state teachers union \u2014 for their decision not to bring the pension reform bill up for a vote. The original measure passed the house by a large margin, but state Senate changes \u2014 including adding a fiscal oversight board \u2014 meant that the house needed to give those changes and up or down vote.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Even with a voting session Monday, there\u2019s no guarantee that the measure will pass.
