Unionville faces a monumental task in bring down Tri County champs <\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

HAVERFORD\u2014Everybody has heard that old sports adage \u201cThat\u2019s why they play the games\u201d, usually associated with a game that on paper looks like such a lop sided mismatch that there is just no way the underdog should even stand a chance.<\/p>\n

As the Indians take the ice tonight at Haverford Skatium, they are hoping that the Unionville faithful will be uttering those words after their opening round match up of the 2012 Flyer Cup, as the Indians will take on a seemingly invincible foe in Tri County league champions Arch Bishop Carroll.<\/p>\n

Unionville (4-11-1), which has shown glimpses through out the season of the form that helped them reach the Flyers Cup championship game in 2011, has been in a learning mode for most of this season\u2019s campaign as they essentially started last season junior varsity for most of the season.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe knew we would take our lumps this year,\u201d said head coach Bill Hammond after a mid season win. \u201cI would rather struggle in a very good league and learn, than play against lesser competition. I think they have really bought into what we are teaching them and look forward to next year already.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Patriots (17-0, 19-1 overall) come into the game riding a nine game winning streak and have outscored their opponents by a margin of 128-30 in league play, while the Indians have been on the short end of the scoring ledger being out scored 44-89 through out the regular season, setting up a true \u201cDavid vs. Goliath\u201d scenario for the blue and gold.<\/p>\n

The great part about the Flyers Cup format is that if a team can catch fire at the right time they have a chance to go far into the bracket and erase and errors or miscues that may have occurred in a long season.<\/p>\n
