ASTON \u2014 In today\u2019s world of apps for everything, texting and social networking it\u2019s not unusual to hear about professional athletes exchanging salvos via the air waves, giving each other teams motivational fodder for the locker room wall.<\/p>\n

After the 10-0 butt whooping that Unionville put on the Devils, it is safe to say that Avon Grove sophomore Haleigh Hunter will think twice before infuriating the opposition with a Twitter post, referring to hockey skills and appearance, any time in the near future.<\/p>\n

The Indians responded by putting on a clinic, showing\u00a0 every one in attendance just how \u201cpretty\u201d hockey can be when executed to perfection.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was the adult about it,\u201d said Univonville sophomore Morgan Wilm, the intended target of said tweet. \u201cI didn\u2019t tweet back, but she was ridiculous with the comment that she \u201cwould rather suck at hockey than be ugly\u201d. We showed them on the scoreboard who can play hockey and looks good doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Indians (8-1) assault on the Devils net was relentless as Unionville scored five goals on their first eight shots, with Wilm scoring a goal sandwiched between two tallies by freshman Sarah O\u2019Neil (3 goals, 6 assists) and Kate Stellar who posted two goals and two assists in the tilt, raising her season totals to 5 goals and 8 assists.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an awesome team to be part of,\u201d said senior captain Colleen Elvin. \u201cTonight was fun because they are from the next town over from us. Sometimes we fly under the radar as our boys team get a lot of notoriety, some people don\u2019t even know we have a girls team, so its fun when we have a big crowd.\u201d<\/p>\n

A crowd is something that the Indians should prepare to see as they get ready to take the ice at Citizen\u2019s Park for the Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic pre-game ceremonies as the two time defending Flyer Cup champions, as more than 40,000 are expected to attend the NHL\u2019s annual outside spectacle, which features the Flyers and Rangers this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will be amazing to part of something so big,\u201d added Elvin. \u201cWe are all so excited about being asked to participate in a national event like the winter classic, it will something we will never forget. It would be great as seniors to win the Flyers Cup again this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

The junior dynamic duo of Lilly Henjes (goal, 3 assists) and Emile Brady who recorded a goal and 3 assists help propel the Indians to a 7-0 first period bulge and 8-0 lead heading into the final frame, forcing head coach Fred Hinjes to call of the dogs, so to speak as Unionville worked on their passing fro a period or so.<\/p>\n

In a remarkable turn of events the referee actually \u201csuggested\u201d to coach Henjes that the Indians put the Devils out of their misery by unleashing the snipers again, when it became apparent that fireworks were getting to erupt as Hunter took a swing at Wilm and Henjes on one shift.<\/p>\n

Less than a minute after the scuff on the ice, prompting roughing calls to Henjes and Hunter, team leading scorer Lyndsey Wenzel (16 goals, 6 assists) scored her second goal of the night after a behind the back assist on a \u201cpretty goal\u201d by Henjes.<\/p>\n

Stellar followed up Wenzel by ending the game with her second tally of the night and the tenth goal to get past Avon Grove net minder Morgan Guarnari, extending the Indians win streak to seven games, keeping them even with Haverford and Downingtown East atop of the Ches-Mont league standings.<\/p>\n
