His sophomore LP, \u201cStrength,\u201d was released in 2022.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">By harnessing a mix of inspirations and diverse sonic pathways while embracing the regional touchstones and personal details of his own melting-pot All-American story,\u00a0Fox\u00a0has arrived in a major way.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">With two previous albums under his belt,\u00a0Fox\u00a0has received millions of streams, including an RIAA Gold certified record with \u201cHorns\u201d off\u00a0\u201cHeaven on Hold\u201d\u00a0(2017), and radio support from stations such as KCRW, KROQ, KTCL and more.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">With his latest album<i>\u00a0<\/i>about destruction and rebirth,\u00a0Fox\u00a0has shown up in a major way &#8212; deeply personal and completely unrestrained.<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Amazingly, Fox has never played a gig in the Philadelphia area.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">That will change on April 18 when Fox is the opening act on the \u201cAWOLNATION \u2013 The Phantom Five Tour\u201d at the Theatre of the Living Arts (334 South Street, Philadelphia, <a id=\"OWAb16cb307-cab7-577a-1847-34adcaaca821\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lnphilly.com\/\">http:\/\/www.lnphilly.com<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cSurprisingly, this will be my first show ever in Philadelphia,\u201d said Fox, during a phone interview Thursday afternoon from a tour stop in Washington, D.C.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Fox has been living in Nashville, Tennessee for the last four years.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI recorded the new album over the last year-and-a-half in Nashville and L.A.,\u201d said Fox, a native of Bloomington, Indiana.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI did some in Nashville and most of it in L.A. with my producer David Pramik at his studio. And we did some by remote.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Pramik is a Grammy-nominated music producer and songwriter based in Los Angeles.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Pramik was nominated for a\u00a0Grammy Award\u00a0for his work on Nothing More\u2019s single \u201cGo To War,\u201d which hit #1 at US Rock Radio, #1 on the US\u00a0Mainstream Rock Chart\u00a0and was nominated for three Grammys (Best Rock Song,\u00a0Best Rock Album,\u00a0Best Rock Performance).<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Pramik also co-wrote and co-produced multiple songs on the Grammy-Nominated\u00a0I Prevail\u00a0album, \u201cTrauma.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThe new album is more produced than my earlier stuff,\u201d said Fox, who graduated from Indiana University with a degree in tele-communications.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThere\u2019s a ton of synths and sound keys. I\u2019ve done stuff in a lot of genres, but I like the rock lane that I\u2019m in right now.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI\u2019ve been into music ever since I can remember. I used to go to country shows with my dad. We also listened a lot to Queen and Pink Floyd.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThen, I got into hip hop when I was in high school. I also started singing and dabbling with recording music with my friends when I was in high school. People told me that I sang well so I pursued it.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI also started playing baseball when I was in high school and fell in love with it, I put a lot of time and energy into it. Then, I stopped baseball when I was in college because drinking was the cool thing to do.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Fox\u2019s time at IU featured a shift from athletics to entertainment.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cIn college, I started playing live,\u201d said Fox. \u201cI frequently played at The Bluebird, which is a popular venue in Bloomington that is related to The Bluebird in Nashville.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI played The Bluebird with all the different bands I was in. The next step was moving to L.A.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWhen I got to California, I was in survival mode. I did things like promoting night clubs. But I knew I wanted to be a singer and songwriter. I was in L.A. for eight years and then moved to Nashville.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This tour will be in support of \u201cThe Butterfly and The Bomb.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cIn my live set, I\u2019m playing three or four songs from the new album,\u201d said Fox. \u201cThat will take up half the set.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThe rest will be songs from my first two albums. I\u2019m the opening act so I only have a 30-minute set. The opening act will be Caitlin Marsilii, Jimmie Marsillii\u2019s daughter.<\/p><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Jimmies are a covers band \u2013 a tribute act of sorts to the hit songs of the 1980s.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The band\u2019s set list might include songs by acts such as Flock of Seagulls, Tom Petty, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, the Black Crowes, Billy Idol, Tears for Fears and Modern English.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThe current focus started with music of the \u201980\u2019s,\u201d said Jimmie Marsilii, during a phone interview Thursday afternoon from his home in Newark, Delaware.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cNow, when we hit the stage, people are dancing. The dance floor is packed. We play what you would have heard on the radio in the \u201980\u2019s \u2013 The Ramones, The Cure, Bon Jovi, Journey, John Cougar, Devo.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Marsilii has been making music for a long time.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI\u2019ve been doing music since I was seven and started playing guitar,\u201d said Marsilii.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI also played mandolin in a Wilmington string band. I already knew how to play guitar, so I picked up bass when I was 16 or 17.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI went to the University of Delaware and graduated with a degree in agricultural business management in 1991.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI was in a band called Life Groove. We toured a lot in central Pennsylvania, Delaware and Philadelphia. We had a couple albums and were together for about eight years.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cMy next band was Hyjinx. We were a covers band that played the Carolinas, Virginia, lower Delaware and the New Jersey casinos. \u201cThat lasted until 2009 and then I was in a country and western\/bluegrass band called Runaway Train. We were the opening act for a lot of country bands.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Eventually, Marsilii put together his current band \u2013 The Jimmies.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cWe\u2019re a six-piece band and we\u2019ve been together with this line-up for 11 years,\u201d said Marsilii. \u201cWe all have different jobs now but, at some point, everyone was a professional musician.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThe line-up features Dave Mohr on lead vocals, Edward Moore on keys, Chris Fullerton on drums and lead vocals, Roger Holcomb on lead guitar and vocals, Matt Malischewski on guitar and vocals and me on bass.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Caitlin Marsilii is a singer\/songwriter\/rocker from Newark who has released one album and several singles.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Her album is called \u201cCalifornia.\u201d Her four singles are \u201cRed Light,\u201d \u201cEvil Things in the Sky,\u201d \u201cHighway Dysfunctional\u201d and \u201cPaddle Along.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The show at the Queen on April 19 will start at 7 p.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets are $15.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center (226 North High Street, West Chester, <a id=\"OWAd6755fcd-bd2e-a407-c1f1-f9c5b8bb91b1\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uptownwestchester.org\/\">www.uptownwestchester.org<\/a>) will present The Four C Notes on April 18 and Jeffrey Gaines on April 19.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On April 19, Kennett Flash (102 Sycamore Alley, Kennett Square, 484-732-8295, <a id=\"OWAd134bc32-5ce4-aca8-1451-4209c18e8060\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kennettflash.org\/\">http:\/\/www.kennettflash.org<\/a>) will present Antar Goodwin &amp; The Faithful Sinner with Jac Conner and Elise as the opening acts.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Goodwin\u00a0is a Philadelphia-based roots and blues artist whose music fuses the grit of classic blues with the soul of Americana. Before stepping into the spotlight with his band Antar Goodwin &amp; The Faithful Sinners, he spent 15 years as a bassist in New York City\u2019s vibrant music scene, serving as a musical director and co-writer for several national touring artists.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">His raw honesty and emotion are a powerful invitation. With a deep well of storytelling and masterful guitar work, Goodwin carries audiences on a journey of truth, and transformation through a timeless sound.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Conner\u00a0is a product of Chester County.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">He is a singer\/songwriter and live looper from Nottingham.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Conner enjoys music of various styles and performs an eclectic mix of classic and contemporary covers as well as original compositions.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">He\u00a0credits artists such as Ed Sheeran, Hozier, Phoebe Bridgers, Noah Kahan, and Elliot Smith as some of his main inspirations.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Elise\u00a0is a local singer\/songwriter who performs acoustic soul and indie rock.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Set times are 7 p.m. for Elise, 7:45 p.m. for Jac Conner and 8:30 p.m. for Antar Goodwin.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This is a \u201cMember Spotlight Show.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">General admission tickets are $20 while Member Spotlight tickets are $15. The musical is inspired by their\u00a0Grammy-winning collaboration on the 2013\u00a0bluegrass\u00a0album\u00a0\u201cLove Has Come for You\u201d and, in turn, the folk tale of the\u00a0\u201cIron Mountain Baby.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The show began previews at the\u00a0Cort Theatre\u00a0on\u00a0Broadway\u00a0on February 25, 2016, before officially opening on March 24.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Despite financial support from Steve Martin and Edie Brickell\u00a0and occasional appearances by Martin, the musical closed on June 26, 2016, after 30 previews and 109 regular performances. The cast recording was nominated for the 2017 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cBright Star\u201d\u00a0is the story of one woman at two different points in her life: the first, when she is a wild young thing growing up barefoot and carefree in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina; the second, when she is a well-to-do magazine editor in Asheville, 22 years later.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Her story is inevitably woven with that of an idealistic young man named Billy, with whom she shares a mysterious connection.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">As a young teen in Zebulon, North Carolina, Alice Murphy is hopelessly in love with small town heartthrob Jimmy Ray, the mayor\u2019s son. Although their love was pure, it falls victim to the interference of ambitious parents, and their infant son is whisked away before their happy ending could ever begin.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">More than two decades later, Alice is the successful editor of The Asheville Southern Journal, and meets a promising young writer named Billy.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Eventually they realize that they share a hometown, and when Alice sees the handmade sweater she knitted for her baby 20 years before in his personal belongings, she realizes that he is the son she lost so long ago.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Their happiness is compounded at the end of the story with a Shakespeare-esque double wedding.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cBright Star\u201d is billed as \u201can uplifting theatrical journey that holds you tightly in its grasp \u2013 as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The cast at the Candlelight features Victoria Healy (Alice Murphy), Jimmy Ray Dobbs (Max Redman), Billy Cail (Galen Graham), Paul<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Weagraff (Mayor Dobbs) Madison Luckey (Margo Crawford) and Anthony Connell (Daryl Ames).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI actually did this show in 2019 at the University of New Hampshire,\u201d said Graham, during a phone interview Tuesday night from his apartment in Center City Philadelphia.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI hadn\u2019t heard of it before that. The end \u2013 the ending caught me by surprise. I also didn\u2019t know how much of a banjo guy Steve Martin was.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Graham is a Boston native who found his way to Philly a few years ago.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cAfter I graduated, I came to Philadelphia to be an apprentice at the Walnut Street Theatre,\u201d said Graham.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Graham did a few shows there including \u2018Beautiful,\u2019 \u2018A Christmas Carol\u2019 and \u201cEscape to Margaritaville.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Ironically, \u201cEscape to Margaritaville\u201d will be the Candlelight\u2019s next production after the theater closes for six weeks of renovation. It will run from July 12-August 24.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201c\u2018Bright Star\u2019 is a show that hits you with how deep it is \u2013 how really personal it is,\u201d said Graham.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cI\u2019m a young guy all the way. My character Billy gets back from the war. He just keeps writing \u2013 trying to get his work published.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThen, things are different 20 years later. Alice finds out that Billy is her son. When he finds out, he takes off. It\u2019s a full month until he comes back.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThen, there is a happy ending. It\u2019s so cool the way things work out.
