border: 2px solid navy;\" title=\"KenRUnCup\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/KenRUnCup-286x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5379\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Only a few desolate tees reside where the Kennett Country Club used to display the KenRun Cup \u2014 which moved to Radley Run, after it&#39;s senior golfers won this year&#39;s annual match between the clubs.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>BIRMINGHAM \u2014 Neighboring golf clubs can often foster some of the great rivalries in amateur sports.\u00a0 On October 4<sup>th<\/sup> and 7<sup>th<\/sup> the Senior Men golf members of Radley Run and Kennett Square once again proudly fielded teams to represent their respective clubs for the 5<sup>th<\/sup> Annual KenRun Cup.\u00a0 The prize is a trophy that is housed in the winning team\u2019s clubhouse for the year and of course bragging rights of the county.\u00a0 The annual event was the brainchild of Greg Varacchi (Radley Run) and Bill Lotter (Kennett Square) who designed the format for the tournament to be similar to the Ryder Cup.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The first year Kennett took home the trophy but that was followed by four years of total domination with Radley trouncing their good friends from Kennett.\u00a0 On the first day Radley won 8-4 with an alternate shot, 2 man team format at Radley and felt quite confident going to Kennett a few days later.\u00a0 Kennett pulled together in the individual matches and won the second day with a 5-7 result but it fell short of winning the KenRun Cup for their team.\u00a0 Finally score:\u00a0 Radley 13, Kennett 11.<\/p>\n<p>The members of the Radley Run team are:\u00a0 Jim McRae, Joe Rizzo, Bob Gould, Bill, Rice, Richard Constable, Robert Potter, Darryl Biery, Chuck Schwartz, Greg Varacchi, Bill Krause, Andy Shaw, Bob Pinto and Kenny Oppenheimer.<\/p>\n<p>To add to the agony of defeat, the losing team, at their expense, must engrave the winning team\u2019s name on the trophy.\u00a0 This year it will proudly stand in the trophy case at Radley while an empty shelf holds nothing but tees at Kennett (see photo).<\/p>\n<p>This is a fun event that is held each fall and as one participant says, \u201cThe beer was good while waiting for the results.\u201d\u00a0 Good luck next year gentlemen!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Radley Run tops Kennett CC senior golfers in fifth annual matchup BIRMINGHAM \u2014 Neighboring golf clubs can often foster some of the great rivalries in amateur sports.\u00a0 On October 4th and 7th the Senior Men golf members of Radley Run and Kennett Square once again proudly fielded teams to represent their respective clubs for the [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":5379,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7,4],"tags":[62,504,363],"class_list":["post-5377","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-featured","category-sports","tag-golf","tag-kennett-country-club","tag-radley-run"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5377","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=5377"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5377\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/5379"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=5377"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=5377"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=5377"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
