Borough Council approves 2023 budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-17306\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Official-Kennett-Square-Logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"278\" \/>On Wednesday, Dec. 7, the Kennett Square Borough Council unanimously approved a budget for 2023.\u00a0 The approved budget reflects a substantial investment in capital projects and infrastructure as the Borough\u2019s capital investment will grow by over 7% compared to previous years.\u00a0 The approved budget strategically allocates resources to leverage and maximize grant opportunities.\u00a0 The approved budget yields approximately $5.1 million in Borough revenue (total taxes and fees) and nearly $4.5 million in total grant revenue.\u00a0 The budget was approved after solicitation of resident input over several months and across multiple meetings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, the Borough Council approved the sale of the former Borough Hall (120 Marshall Street) to a local company, Riverwards General, for $400,000.\u00a0 The proposed project is a small (five to six rooms), high-quality hotel.\u00a0 The sale increases revenue to the Borough, while decreasing maintenance costs and expanding the tax base. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Borough personnel will be distributing our quarterly newsletter to residents and businesses over the next several weeks.\u00a0 A digital copy of the newsletter is attached with this notification and can also be found on the Borough\u2019s Facebook page.\u00a0 We are grateful to our partners, Kennett Library and Kennett Collaborative, for their partnership in this effort.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Upcoming Events<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The KSQ Farmers Market is now a year-round program.\u00a0 Local vegetables, meats, mushrooms, and cheeses can be purchased throughout the winter season.\u00a0 <strong>The Market is open every Friday from 3:00pm-5:00pm at The Creamery, located at 401 Birch Street.<\/strong>\u00a0 You can sign up to receive their newsletter, with all the latest vendor and product updates and pre-ordering options, at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ksqfarmersmarket.com\/\">www.KSQFarmersMarket.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>On Saturday, December 17<sup>th<\/sup>, from 10:00am-2:00pm<\/strong>, the Kennett Library is hosting a Winter Solstice Celebration.\u00a0 The event will consist of holiday activities for everyone to enjoy, including crafting homemade gifts and ornaments.\u00a0 More details about this event can be found at\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/linklock.titanhq.com\/analyse?url=https%3A%2F%2Fccls.libcal.com%2Fevent%2F9899903&amp;data=eJxLtjUzTDW1TDY2M7NISzRSS7HNTs3LSy0pKS7Uyy9KV8u1TQkzcfE0Tg1KzPeJUiu2TcwtLSrIqFQ1MUhOzikGqymyLU4vSk3OB4qhai61zSgpKShWNXZUNXIDIrCOnMyk5MQcveT8XKBIallqXgmQtrSwtLQ0MAYANj8u5w%25%25\">https:\/\/ccls.libcal.com\/event\/9899903<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>On Saturday, December 31<sup>st<\/sup>, beginning at 7:00pm,<\/strong> The Mushroom Festival, Inc. is sponsoring \u201cMidnight in the Square.\u201d\u00a0 The event will take place until the \u201cmushroom drops\u201d at midnight.\u00a0 More details about the event can be found at<a href=\"https:\/\/midnightinthesquare.com\/\">https:\/\/midnightinthesquare.com\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>On Monday, January 9<sup>th<\/sup> from 6:00pm-7:30pm,<\/strong> the Kennett Library is hosting the Bayard Taylor Literacy Open Mic Night.\u00a0 Bayard Taylor was an American poet, literary critic, translator, fiction, and travel author.\u00a0 In honor of his 198th birthday, Kennett Library is throwing a literary open mic night party.
