Chester \u201cChet\u201d Charles McCabe<\/p><\/div>\n

Chester \u201cChet\u201d Charles McCabe, age 98, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2022.<\/p>\n

One of 5 children (2 brothers and 3 sisters), Chet was born in Shoreham, Vermont to Mary St. John and Charles Edward McCabe. Chet was attending the University of Vermont studying Physics when he volunteered for service in World War II in 1943.\u00a0 He served as an aviation cadet, officer, and in flight meteorologist in the U.S. Air Force for four years. Chet continued his education at the University of Chicago obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology, followed by a Master of Science at Columbia University and a PhD in Physics at Purdue University.<\/p>\n

Chet was employed by DuPont for over 35 years in Product Research and Development for both Elastomers and Polymer Products, retiring in 1985.\u00a0In the local government arena, he served on the Planning Commission and Zoning Hearing Board for Kennett Township from 1976 until 1988 when he became Zoning Officer, a position which he held until 2011. Chet and Mary Lou built a lovely home in Chadds Ford in 1965 and remained in their home until 2011 when they moved to Jenner\u2019s Pond in West Grove.<\/p>\n

Chet is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Lou McCabe, son Schuyler McCabe, daughter Christena McCabe, grandchildren Collin, Cameron, Andrew, Connor, Kyle, Claira, and great granddaughter Cecilia. The family is forever grateful for the team at Willow Tree Hospice for their excellent care of Chet in his final days.<\/p>\n

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Allison Building at Jenners Pond, 2000 Greenbriar Lane, West Grove, PA.<\/p>\n
