They are all legendary rock guitarists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">But you don\u2019t need \u201cseven degrees of separation\u201d to personally link them to each other. One degree of separation will suffice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">All of them played on Don Felder\u2019s new album, \u201cAmerican Rock &#8216;n&#8217; Roll.\u201d<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cAmerican Rock &#8216;n&#8217; Roll\u201d is the third studio album by Don Felder, a former member of the Eagles. It was released April 5, 2019 through BMG Rights Management.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">The album, which is a showcase of Felder\u2019s artistic talents, features 11 high-energy rockers mixed with touching, thoughtful ballads. From the state of the guitar-rock union salute to \u201cAmerican Rock \u2018N\u2019 Roll\u201d to the funky crunch of \u201cHearts on Fire\u201d to the fierce, unrelenting declaration of \u201cRock You\u201d to the mutual heartfelt honesty of \u201cFalling in Love\u201d and \u201cYou\u2019re My World,\u201d Felder has once again tapped into the current music zeitgeist to emerge with an album that represents the peak of his creative prowess.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Now, Felder is on the road \u2013 touring in support of his sparkling new disc. The tour touches down in Chester County on September 25 at Colonial Theatre (Bridge Street, Phoenixville, 610- 917-1228, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecolonialtheatre.com)he\/\">www.thecolonialtheatre.com)he<\/a> Colonial Theatre (Bridge Street, Phoenixville, 610- 917-1228, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecolonialtheatre.com\/\">www.thecolonialtheatre.com<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cThe album was actually finished and mixed at the end of 2018,\u201d said Felder, during a recent phone interview from his home in Beverly Hills.<br \/>\n\u201cBefore it was released, I had to get all the ducks in a row with regard to promotion. BMG is a great record company. Instead of racing to get it out by Christmas, we decided to put it out in early spring.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">The album boasts an impressive guest list of contributors addition to the above-named guitarists including Sammy Hagar (vocals on \u201cRock You\u201d), Mick Fleetwood and Chad Smith (trading off drumming duties on the title track), David Paich (keyboards on \u201cHearts on Fire,\u201d piano on \u201cThe Way Things Have to Be\u201d), and Steve Porcaro (keyboards on \u201cFalling in Love\u201d).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">According to Felder, \u201c\u201cOn my last solo album, I had only one guest on guitar&#8211;Steve Lukather (Toto)&#8211;and I played every other guitar part on every other song. I didn\u2019t want to do that this time. I wanted to have people come in and light it up. My goal was to play with them and have a good time. It was a ball!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Apparently, the album was as fun to make as it is fun to listen to.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cI recorded the album in a lot of places,\u201d said Felder, a co-writer of \u201cHotel California\u201d and \u201cVictim of Love.\u201d \u201cI used a studio here in L.A. \u2013 East West Studio. I was re-doing my studio and Slash came there. Me and Sammy Hagar used a studio in Sausalito. I did the tracks with Richie Sambora and Orianthi in Richie\u2019s kitchen and the track with Peter Frampton at his studio in Nashville.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cI knew all the players \u2013 how they play and how they sound. The track with Chad Smith was migrating through decades. With Mick Fleetwood, I sent the stems to him in Hawaii. Playing with Joe Satriani pushed me out of my comfort zone. He\u2019s one of the most amazing technical guitarists I\u2019ve ever heard.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Surprisingly, Felder, a former lead guitarist of the Eagles, didn\u2019t start out as a guitarist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cI grew up in Gainesville, Florida,\u201d said Felder, a fertile ground for musicians where Lynyrd Skynyrd, Stephen Stills and Tom Petty groomed their sound when they were young.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cI played bass when I was 14. We\u2019d play every Wednesday night at Dub\u2019s Steer Room in Gainesville.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cI was also playing fraternity parties at the University of Florida every week and that kept me busy. Then, in the summer when the university was on break, we\u2019d go and play Daytona Beach.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Felder eventually moved on to periods of living in New York and Boston before eventually moving to California. In 1974, he joined the Eagles, who already had a number of hit singles to their credit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">With the addition of Felder\u2019s talents, the Eagles recorded megahits such as \u201cTake It to the Limit,\u201d \u201cAlready Gone,\u201d \u201cVictim of Love,\u201d \u201cOne of These Nights,\u201d \u201cThose Shoes,\u201d and \u201cHotel California.\u201d Felder and the Eagles parted ways for good in 2001 and he has been pursuing his solo career ever since.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Video link for Don Felder \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/hQ5O-FzqfGA\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/hQ5O-FzqfGA<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">The show at the Colonial Theatre will start at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $39.50-$75.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10210\" style=\"width: 292px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/alter-bridge-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10210\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10210\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/alter-bridge--282x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"282\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-10210\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alter Bridge<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Alter Bridge is playing at The Met (858 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, <a href=\"http:\/\/themetphilly.com\/\">http:\/\/themetphilly.com<\/a>) on September 25 as part of the \u201cVictorious Sky Tour,\u201d which features Alter Bridge co-headlining with Skillet and special guest Dirty Honey.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Alter Bridge was formed in 2004 in Orlando, Florida and the hard-rocking quartet is still going strong \u2013 with all four original members.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">The resilient foursome features lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Myles Kennedy, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips. Kennedy came from the band The Mayfield Four while the rest of the band made up three-quarters of Creed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Alter Bridge<\/span><span lang=\"EN\"> burst onto the music scene in 2004 with the release of its gold-selling debut,\u00a0\u201cOne Day Remains.\u201d\u00a0In 2007, the band released\u00a0\u201cBlackbird,\u201d the album that elevated the band\u2019s profile worldwide.\u00a0The epic solo in the title track \u201cBlackbird\u201d was voted \u201cGreatest Guitar Solo of All Time\u201d by Guitarist Magazine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Now, a decade-and-a-half after releasing its debut album, Alter Bridge is ready to drop its sixth album, \u201cWalk The Sky.\u201d The new album will be released on October 18 via Napalm Records.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cWe started writing for it in August 2018,\u201d said Kennedy, during a phone interview last week from a tour stop in Raleigh, North Carolina.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cWe then went in a studio in Orlando with producer Michael Baskette, who everybody just calls \u2018Elvis.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">In the past, Kennedy and Tremonti would make an album by working on riffs and ideas and riffs with Baskette. This time around, Kennedy and Tremonti arrived for the recording sessions with complete song ideas and then Marshall and Phillips would help fleshing out the songs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cMost of it was written before we went into the studio,\u201d said Kennedy. \u201cMichael and I are the primary songwriters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cThat\u2019s the writing team. With doing this together for 15 years, we have it worked out. So, we brought in completed songs. Some were in pieces, so, for them, it was a matter of sitting down with Brian, Scott and Elvis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cPeople who have heard the record keep commenting on how positive it sounds. I\u2019ve found a good way to frame my existence. I feel comfortable with it. There is a certain peace.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Alter Bridge\u2019s new album ventures into new territory but does not wander too far from the path.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cSonically, we definitely have certain hallmarks \u2013 a strong sense of melody over a riff factor,\u201d said Kennedy, who has also recorded and toured with Slash since 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cWe focus on riffs being a certain style that is our own. We didn\u2019t want to drift too far away from that. But we also wanted to use textures \u2013 the synth vibe of old John Carpenter films. It was a balancing act.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cIt\u2019s important for us to have that balance so we don\u2019t alienate fans from the past but also not to do the same thing over again. The album defines a moment in time. Other than the synth parts, the overall vibe is because of lyrical themes. Now, she is touring in support of her latest disc and will visit Philly on September 25 for a show at the World Caf\u00e9 Live (3025 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, 215-222-1400, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldcafelive.com\/\">www.worldcafelive.com<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">The album\u2019s title has a universal vibe. At some point and to some degree, everyone is a sinner \u2013 except maybe Mike Pence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cSinner \u2013 it\u2019s a word that is really complicated,\u201d said Stevens, during a recent phone interview from her parents\u2019 home in St. Louis, Missouri.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cIt\u2019s a word people don\u2019t like. It\u2019s a harsh, judgmental word. It\u2019s also a fun word between friends.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cI came across a moment in my life when I had to make a difficult decision \u2013 and I felt like a sinner.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">The album was produced by Jonathan Wilson (Dawes, Roger Waters, Father John Misty) who also played a variety of instruments during the sessions including guitars, bass, drums, percussion and mellotron. Other top-flight musicians on the record were drummer James Gadson (Bill Withers, Paul McCartney, B.B. King, Marvin Gaye), bassist Jake Blanton (the Killers), pianist Keefus Ciancia (Elton John, T Bone Burnett), organist Nate Walcott (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bright Eyes) and vocalist Jenny O.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Fortunately, Stevens doesn\u2019t preach or get judgmental on her \u201cSinner\u201d album.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cI like to let people interpret my songs,\u201d said Stevens. \u201cThere is a need for songs and music. It\u2019s a way for us to see what we\u2019re all about.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">According to Stevens, \u201cI have always written songs to help me heal and to help me cry and laugh. Many people don\u2019t like tears. They are afraid of pain. They want to walk away. When after I play someone says, \u2018You are the most vulnerable,\u2019 I consider it the biggest compliment. Still, it means cracking my heart open like an egg at every show.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Stevens has been penning songs since she was young.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cMusic has been a tool of self-expression since I was little,\u201d said Stevens. \u201cI used to practice piano by a big window with birds conking their heads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cI grew up in St. Louis and was influenced by Uncle Tupelo which was some real honest music. That aspect of what they were doing was something that I love. I also listened to country radio. I love that 90s era country radio. Those songs were tight.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cSinner\u201d is <\/span><span lang=\"EN\">Stevens\u2019 third full-length album. In a span of three years, Royal Teeth released its debut album, \u201cGlow,\u201d in 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">After a six-year gap, Royal Teeth released its sophomore album, \u201cHard Luck,\u201d on June 28, 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cThe long delay started with some record label drama,\u201d said Larsen, during a recent phone interview as the band travelled from Nashville to a gig in Atlanta.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201c\u2018Glow\u2019 came out in 2013 on Dangerbird Records. Then, the label we were on started having some problems. So, we bought ourselves out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cThen, we signed to Elektra Records. A short while later, the guy who signed us left the company. Unfortunately, every time something like that happens, it pushed back our recording and tours.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">In April 2015, the band signed with Elektra Records. In April 2016, Royal Teeth and Elektra parted ways. Later that year, the band hooked up with Round Hill Records.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cWe did put out an EP \u2013 \u2018Amateurs\u2019 \u2013 in 2016 on Round Hill Records,\u201d said Larsen. \u201cWe met the Round Hill crew in New York, and they decided to take a chance. This year, we put out \u2018Hard Luck\u2019 through the. It was like a restart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cI think we changed as people from the experience. We\u2019re older. We\u2019re self-sufficient and we\u2019re ready to keep going.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Ever since the group\u2019s members began recording from their homes in New Orleans and Nashville as far back as 2017, they\u2019ve felt revitalized. Unlike their previous releases, the new album is rough around the edges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">According to Larsen, \u201cWe didn\u2019t want to reference anything we had done before. We needed to move on and figure out what we are today. This line of work can be difficult. It requires you to be vulnerable and put yourself out there to be judged by others. It\u2019s hard to get used to.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cWe are using this album as a platform to face our fears, and to focus on the love we find through the music we create and those who connect along the way. I hope that this album gives strength to anyone who has a hard time putting themselves out there for the world to see.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Currently, Hefner and Onebane live in Nashville while Patterson and Larsen, who are married, are still living in New Orleans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cNora and I have been married for two years,\u201d said Larsen. \u201cWe\u2019ve been together for eight years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cAll four of us grew up in Louisiana. Tom and Josh were members of the band Oh Juliet based in Lafayette, Louisiana. They played together as teenagers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cOnce their band ended, I joined with them. We were based in New Orleans. Nora had just moved to New Orleans and we asked her to join the band.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">After a while, Hefner and Onebane decided to move from the Crescent City to Music City.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cWe did some sessions in Nashville in the past,\u201d said Larsen. \u201c\u2018Hard Luck\u2019 had stuff we recorded in our houses. I had a studio in our New Orleans house. We\u2019d send tracks back-and-forth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cIt was a definitely a more fun experience than our past records. I\u2019d get my guitar and build tracks at home. I\u2019ve written twice as many songs working this way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cWe didn\u2019t want this album to be smooth. Our attitude \u2013 we wanted it to feel a little more rough around the edges. We want to still be an upbeat pop band \u2013 but just a bit rougher.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cOn this tour, we\u2019re opening for Rocket Summer, so we only have a 434-minute set. Half of the set is stuff from \u2018Hard Luck\u2019 and we\u2019re sprinkling in some older songs.
