{"id":42444,"date":"2019-03-20T08:27:28","date_gmt":"2019-03-20T12:27:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=42444"},"modified":"2019-03-20T08:27:31","modified_gmt":"2019-03-20T12:27:31","slug":"democrats-endorse-sondergaard-binder-maxwell-maddox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=42444","title":{"rendered":"Democrats endorse Sondergaard, Binder, Maxwell &#038; Maddox"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"s13\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/CCDC_logo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-9230\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/CCDC_logo-300x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>WEST CHESTER \u2014 Chester County Democrats are on the verge of a third consecutive tear of historic wins <\/span><span class=\"s14\">as they gathered at Stetson Middle School Tuesday night to endorse countywide judicial and row offices. \u00a0Among the 23 candidates\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">presented to the Committee<\/span><span class=\"s14\">, only two\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u2013 Deb Ryan for District Attorney and Chris Pielli for Recorder of Deeds &#8212;\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">ran unopposed. All came with impeccable resumes from years of serving in government,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">business, law and on the bench,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">showing the strong support from a united Chester County Democratic Committee (CCDC).<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s14\">Deb Ryan for District Attorney and Chri<\/span><span class=\"s14\">s Pielli for Recorder of Deeds\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">each earned a voice vote of unanimous consent from the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">362<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0eligible<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0voters in attendance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s15\">An abundance of riches<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0was how many\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">CCDC<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">members described the Endorseme<\/span><span class=\"s14\">nt Convention\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">as almost two-<\/span><span class=\"s14\">doze<\/span><span class=\"s14\">n candidates took to the podium, five for the Court of Common Pleas\u2019 two slots and four for the Chester County Sheriff position.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s14\">Endorsed candidates g<\/span><span class=\"s14\">enerating 65% or more of ballots cast\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">were:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s16\"><span class=\"s14\">District Attorney: Deb Ryan<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s16\"><span class=\"s14\">Recorder of Deeds: Chris Pielli<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s16\"><span class=\"s14\">Pennsylvania Superior Court<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0(vote for two): Amanda Green-Hawkins, Dan McCaffery<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s16\"><span class=\"s14\">Court of Common Pleas<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0(vote for two): Analisa Sondergaard, Bret Binder<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s16\"><span class=\"s14\">Sheriff<\/span><span class=\"s14\">: Fredda Maddox<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s17\"><span class=\"s14\">County Commissioner<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0(vote for two): \u00a0Josh Maxwell\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s17\"><span class=\"s15\">There<\/span><span class=\"s15\">\u00a0was no 2<\/span><span class=\"s18\">nd<\/span><span class=\"s15\">\u00a0endorsement leaving<\/span><span class=\"s15\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s15\">Kathi<\/span><span class=\"s15\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s15\">Cozzone<\/span><span class=\"s15\">, Marian\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s15\">Moskowitz<\/span><span class=\"s15\">\u00a0and Ginny\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s15\">Kerslake<\/span><span class=\"s15\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s15\">to also<\/span><span class=\"s15\">\u00a0run in the primary<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s17\"><span class=\"s14\">Prothonotary<\/span><span class=\"s14\">: no endorsement\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s17\"><span class=\"s15\">Debbie Bookman and Joe Heffern to run in primary<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s17\"><span class=\"s14\">Register of Wills<\/span><span class=\"s14\">: no endorsement\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s17\"><span class=\"s15\">Lisa Longo and Michele Vaughn to run in primary<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s14\">The four-person race for Sheriff went two rounds with no candidate grabbing the 65% threshold on the first ballot. One the second ballot, Fredda Maddox surpassed Joe Lunsford with 75% of the votes cast for the two remaining Sheriff candidates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s14\">Likewise, the race for County Commissioner went three rounds. Democrats could vote for two of the four runners. No one passed the 65% threshold on the first round. With all four candidates running again, Josh Maxwell captured 66% of the vote. The two next-highest vote getters, Marian Moskowitz and Kathi Cozzone, ran for a third ballot. Neither candidate earned an endorsement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s14\">The standing-room only crowd drew\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">hundreds of\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">Committee Persons and Zone Leaders from 20 regional\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">zones. Many of the speakers noted the high turnout\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">on this night\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">was reflective of the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">high\u00a0<\/span><a name=\"_GoBack\"><\/a><span class=\"s14\">energy in the Democratic\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">party<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0across the whole county.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s14\">\u201cThe ripple effect for change from one-party rule,\u201d noted CCDC Chairman Dick\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">Bingham,<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0\u201cbegan in 2017 when we elected four County Row Officers. Last year Chester County voters<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">chose<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0to go \u201c<\/span><span class=\"s14\">blue\u201d &#8212;\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">electing\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">six Democrats of\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">nine PA state Represe<\/span><span class=\"s14\">ntative seats<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0and sending the first Democrat to Congress from the 6<\/span><span class=\"s19\">th<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0District.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s14\">\u201cThat enthusiasm has spread to a record number of\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">Democrats filing petitions for their\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">local School Board and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">to run<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0as\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">Township Sup<\/span><span class=\"s14\">ervisors<\/span><span class=\"s14\">.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">History\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">is poised to\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">be\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s14\">made<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0again this fall as more women, minorities and first time candidates step up to serve their communities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s12\">The change in political parties has already made a tremendous impact in Chester County from West Chester and Harrisburg to Washington, DC. \u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s12\">Just last week Yolanda Van del Krol, Chester County Clerk of Courts, announced that her office\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s12\">is now accepting documents by electronic filing, or e-filing.<\/span><span class=\"s12\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s12\">The e-filing process allows lawyers to submit documents electronically, alleviating the need to visit the Clerk of Courts Office in West Chester. Once filed, lawyers can then view the documents on a case electronically, eliminating the need to again visit the Clerk of Courts Office to view paper files.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s14\">With the addition of Democratic leaders<\/span><span class=\"s14\">hip<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0in Chester County<\/span><span class=\"s14\">, change is finally coming to county and state government after decades of one-party rule.<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0It should be noted it took more than a century for Democratic leadership to finally represent the 6<\/span><span class=\"s19\">th<\/span><span class=\"s14\">Congressional District.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s14\">Tuesday, May 21 is the Municipal Primary<\/span><span class=\"s14\">. The last day for residents<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0to register to vote for<\/span><span class=\"s14\">\u00a0the primary is April 22.
