Eric Roe (R-158)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Rep. Eric Roe (R-158) is encouraging schools to apply for funding to help with safety equipment and resources from the new School Safety and Security Grant Program by Oct. 12 to the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, which is administering the new program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a parent myself, I understand the importance of preserving our children\u2019s safety at all times, especially when we are not with them in the classroom. It\u2019s one of my top priorities, and I will continue my work to secure schools,\u201d Roe said.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The program, which was established as part of the 2018-19 state budget package, makes available $52 million in grant funding for school districts, intermediate units, area vocational-technical schools, charter schools and private residential (rehabilitative) institutions for a wide variety of projects to improve school safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis grant funding will allow schools to make personalized decisions about how best to protect students, rather than require a cookie-cutter approach,\u201d Roe added.<\/p>\n<p>The grants can be used to hire school security officers, purchase security-related technology, complete safety and security assessments, implement violence prevention curricula, offer counseling services for students, and administer programs and services to protect students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"listyle\">The grant money is to be distributed geographically, with each school district eligible to receive at least $25,000 of the available funds.
