{"id":40188,"date":"2018-07-18T10:23:57","date_gmt":"2018-07-18T14:23:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=40188"},"modified":"2018-07-18T10:24:00","modified_gmt":"2018-07-18T14:24:00","slug":"state-to-fund-1-1m-for-traffic-safety-upgrades-in-chesco","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=40188","title":{"rendered":"State to fund $1.1M for traffic safety upgrades in Chesco"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/TrafficLightC1105_V_v_C_Y.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-7687\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/TrafficLightC1105_V_v_C_Y-220x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>State Senator Andy Dinniman recently announced that three municipalities in Chester County will receive more than $1.1 million in total funding for traffic control system safety upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>The grants come through PennDOT\u2019s Green Light-Go Program, which reimburses municipalities for updates to improve the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnsuring that our traffic lights are operating properly and effectively is not only a matter of safety, it also greatly impacts the congestion and flow of vehicles on our roadways,\u201d Dinniman, who serves on the Senate Transportation Committee, said. \u201cThese funds will go a long way in helping local municipalities upgrade traffic signals with the latest technology and keep traffic control systems functioning at peak efficiency.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The grants were as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$237,336 for Schuylkill Township for interconnection of traffic signals along Pothouse Road and Whitehorse Road.<\/li>\n<li>$688,000 for West Chester Borough for installation of radio communications and modernization of traffic signal controllers to 23 traffic signals in the borough with a connection to the PennDOT District 6 Regional Traffic Management Center via trunk fiber connection along US Route 202.<\/li>\n<li>$246,320 for Willistown Township to install fiber optic communications between six signals along Lancaster Avenue (U.S. Route 30).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Made possible by Act 89, the state\u2019s comprehensive transportation funding plan. Green Light-Go Program funds may be utilized for a range of operational improvements including, but not limited to: light-emitting diode (LED) technology installation, traffic signal retiming, developing special event plans and monitoring traffic signals, as well as upgrading traffic signals to the latest technologies.<\/p>\n<p>Funding for the Chester County projects comes as part of $31 million in total Green Light-Go funding for traffic signal upgrades in 70 municipalities statewide through the program\u2019s fourth round of funding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State Senator Andy Dinniman recently announced that three municipalities in Chester County will receive more than $1.1 million in total funding for traffic control system safety upgrades.
