The Community Food Drive is one initiative our Board has been coordinating for many years, says Carol Black, Board President.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cWe are committed to honoring Dr. King\u2019s legacy throughout the year, not just on one day.\u00a0\u00a0We chose to host this food drive in March as a way to commemorate the March from Selma\u201d, says Black.\u00a0\u00a0The food drive benefits the Kennett Area Community Service (KACS\u2019s Food Cupboard) as well as the Avon Grove Bridge Pantry, West Grove PA.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cNow more than ever is it incredibly important for our community to support a food drive,\u201d says Melanie Weiler, KACS Executive Director.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cOur supply is low, we are anticipating cuts in funding, and so we need to prepare.\u00a0\u00a0We can\u2019t thank our community enough for their continued support and generosity\u201d, says Weiler.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Food items that are in the most demand include but not limited to tuna, and peanut butter, rice, pasta, oatmeal, low sugar fruit, tomato sauce, fresh produce, and canned vegetables. We will also provide change collection jars to local businesses and community sites.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe are asking churches, neighborhoods groups, businesses, service clubs, schools, scouts, sports teams, etc. to engage in a food drive during this time\u201d, says Ginny Levy, Chair of the MLK Food Drive Committee. \u201cHave fun, make it competitive. Have an in-law\/out-law challenge. Host a food drive party at your home. Girl Scouts, challenge boy scouts for a top scout food drive event!\u00a0\u00a0Ask your Lion&#8217;s Club to challenge the local Rotary Club.\u00a0\u00a0Kennett, Avon Grove, and Unionville Alum groups could challenge each other to collect food OR you could collect money for the food cupboards if handling food items is too difficult to manage. Get creative, anything you can do to spark the interest and get collecting will benefit those who are most in need in our community,\u201d said Levy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Once items are collected, you can conveniently drop off your donations directly to the KACS Food Cupboard any day between Monday \u2013 Friday from 9:00 am \u2013 5:00 pm.
