Steve Barrar (R-160).<\/p><\/div>\n<p>HARRISBURG \u2013 Rep. Stephen E. Barrar (R-Chester\/Delaware) joined his House colleagues from both sides of the aisle to unanimously pass legislation that will protect the unemployment benefits of 45,000 Pennsylvanians.\u00a0 Barrar released the following statement regarding the bill:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenate Bill 1030 is the result of Republicans and Democrats in both the House and Senate coming together to pass legislation that has a real impact on the lives of Pennsylvanians and will help to save money through commonsense reforms to the Commonwealth\u2019s Unemployment Compensation system.\u00a0 We put our differences aside to ensure that families who rely on their unemployment checks would not see a disruption of benefits.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe legislation will institute some important reforms to our unemployment compensation system, which is currently billions of dollars in debt to the federal government.\u00a0 The most important reform is the addition of active job search requirements as a condition of receiving unemployment benefits.\u00a0 Every other state in the nation stipulates job search requirements to receive unemployment compensation, and I do not think it is too much to ask.\u00a0 Unemployment compensation is an important bridge for people between jobs, and the main goal is to keep people on their feet until they can find gainful employment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI heard from colleagues on both sides of this issue \u2013 some who wanted to see more stringent reforms and some who did not want any changes to the system.\u00a0 In the end, we came together to put the interests of the citizens first.\u00a0 It is still a very difficult job market out there, and I am hopeful the Legislature will now be able to turn its attention to efforts to improve the job market and attract employers to the Commonwealth.\u00a0 Job creation and economic growth are my main priorities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More information about Barrar and his legislative priorities is available at SteveBarrar.com or Facebook.com\/RepBarrar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HARRISBURG \u2013 Rep.
