{"id":35288,"date":"2017-06-07T15:01:00","date_gmt":"2017-06-07T19:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=35288"},"modified":"2017-06-07T15:01:39","modified_gmt":"2017-06-07T19:01:39","slug":"unionville-high-school-graduation-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=35288","title":{"rendered":"Unionville High graduates 94th class"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_4260\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/UHSGrad-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4260\" class=\"wp-image-4260\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/UHSGrad-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"447\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4260\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Members of the Unionville High School Class of 2017 celebrate graduation by throwing their hats in the air.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>By Mike McGann<\/strong>, <em>Editor, The Times<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">NEWARK, Del. \u2014 With some wistfulness, one less power outage than 2016, (but the same amount of selfies) Unionville High School graduated its 94th class Wednesday at the Carpenter Center on the campus of the University of Delaware.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Sporting new robes of navy blue \u2014 a better match for the school colors than the old royal blue robes used in recent years \u2014 the Class of 2017 enjoyed a drama-free and typically efficient graduation ceremony.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Unionville High School Principal James Conley shared a bit from his own life, detailing his challenge of raising a teenager (his oldest just turned 13) and reflecting a bit the value of \u201cbeing that guy\u201d or the sort of person who lives up to being their best self.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWhatever platitudes you may hear over the next few months, no matter how old that you are, please know that it\u2019s really hard to stand up and be \u2018that person!\u2019 \u201d Conley said. \u201cBut also know, that we have your back.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Superintendent of Schools John Sanville suggested that graduates remember to focus on the small things, the details, the feelings that shaped their years in school. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIf I were to ask you to tell me what you liked best \u2013 you would tell me about the moments, conversations, observations, revelations, discoveries- all the little things that made your time in UCF SO special,\u201d Sanville said.\u00a0\u201cThere would be hundreds- maybe thousands- of stories that you would connect to your sitting here today.\u00a0And I would not be surprised-because it is the little things that add up to big things for all of us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4261\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/UHSgrad17-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4261\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4261\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/UHSgrad17-3-350x274.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"274\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4261\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">UHS principal James Conley and Unionville-Chadds Ford Superintendent of Schools John Sanville share a selfie during Wednesday&#8217;s ceremony.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">Conley and Sanville \u2014 noting the lack of a power outage (a brief power blink briefly interrupted the 2016 ceremony, prompting Conley to improvise a &#8220;selfie&#8221;
