{"id":34479,"date":"2017-04-07T09:51:14","date_gmt":"2017-04-07T13:51:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=34479"},"modified":"2017-04-07T09:51:16","modified_gmt":"2017-04-07T13:51:16","slug":"newlin-supervisors-to-consider-anti-gerrymandering-resolution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=34479","title":{"rendered":"Newlin supervisors to consider anti-Gerrymandering resolution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/FairDistrictsPA.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3700\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/FairDistrictsPA-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>At its April 10<sup>th<\/sup> meeting, the Newlin Township Board of Supervisors will be discussing a resolution seeking to end gerrymandering in Pennsylvania by supporting legislation calling for fair, independent nonpartisan redistricting reform.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution also calls upon every elected official who represents the voters in Newlin Township to publicly support and work for passage of that legislation.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Gerrymandering is a practice intended to establish a political advantage for the party in power by manipulating electoral district boundaries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of gerrymandering, voters in Newlin Township really have no voice in national or state affairs,\u201d says Fair Districts PA volunteer Lucy Oblonsky. Adds Fair Districts PA volunteer Pamela Reischauer, \u201cFor political reasons, our congressional district is spread over five different counties and is shaped like a moose.
