{"id":3440,"date":"2011-05-31T09:58:00","date_gmt":"2011-05-31T13:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=3440"},"modified":"2011-05-31T09:58:00","modified_gmt":"2011-05-31T13:58:00","slug":"letters-praise-for-girls-on-the-run-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=3440","title":{"rendered":"Letters: praise for &#8216;Girls on the Run&#8217; program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Letters4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3443\" title=\"Letters\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Letters4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"140\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Letters4.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Letters4-142x100.jpg 142w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>[<strong>EDITOR&#8217;S NOTE<\/strong>] <em>The following letter was originally sent to the Unionville-Chadds Ford Board of Education and presented by its authors for publication here.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dear School Board Directors:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are some great things happening in our school district!\u00a0 One example is the \u201cGirls on the Run\u201d program at Hillendale Elementary School.\u00a0 Nine exceptional girls, one of whom is the daughter of a district employee, participated in a fundraising run to benefit the autism support classroom at Hillendale.\u00a0 They raised $900 which was used to purchase an iPad for the classroom.\u00a0 As you may be aware, the iPad has excellent applications to help children with Autism communicate and learn.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As parents of a child in the autism support classroom, we were awed and humbled at the remarkable showing of compassion, organization and determination displayed by these young women.\u00a0 They should be recognized and commended for their efforts as they are a positive reflection on their families and the district.<\/p>\n<p>The autism support classroom is a model for excellence in special education.\u00a0 Our district administrators, teachers, Superintendent and School Board should be proud of this accomplishment.\u00a0 Principal Steve Dissinger worked for inclusiveness of these special students into the overall student body at Hillendale and the good work of \u201cGirls on the Run\u201d illustrates the success of his efforts.\u00a0 The students who participated are:\u00a0 Winden Rowe, Jennifer Bucci, Jennie Lane, Mackenna Bond, Alexa Walter, Hannah Kovic, Lindsay Bond, Grace Buckley, Julia Walter, Jennie Marmo, Makayla Bucci, Abby Fitzsimons, Amelie Assmus-Schubert, Katie Cooley, Natalie Fournier and Brie Wilkey<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for your ongoing support and efforts at making UCFSD a great place for all students to learn and grow.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>Yours Truly,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong> Craig and Sonya Huffman<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[EDITOR&#8217;S NOTE] The following letter was originally sent to the Unionville-Chadds Ford Board of Education and presented by its authors for publication here.
