Unionville sends three students to All-State Chorus<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The Unionville High School Chorus in performance Wednesday night.<\/p><\/div>\n

EAST MARLBOROUGH \u2014 This year\u2019s spring choral concert rocked the house at the Unionville High School Auditorium on Thursday. Students from grades 9-12 preformed a nearly two-hour long concert in front of an audience of about 150 people.<\/p>\n

The annual spring performance had a theme of \u201cWar & Peace.\u201d Choral Director Jason Throne explained, \u201cEvery year in the Spring I have been selecting a theme for our performance. This year, with the ongoing struggles in the Middle East and the revolutions throughout North Africa and around the world I decided that a theme of conflict and struggle was an appropriate way to honor our troops and all those who fight for freedom all over the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

The program opened with the famous recording of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt\u2019s speech of December 7th, 1941, \u201ca date which shall live in infamy\u201d while the Concert Choir took the stage to sing Amazing Grace. Between each song, the exact composition of the choir on stage changed, and another famous war-time speech from history was played.<\/p>\n

There are several different Choirs from Unionville that took place in the concert. In addition to the large Concert Choir, the smaller Chorale sang four songs from The Armed Man, a mass by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins. The 16 member Chamber Choir sang Hide and Seek, a song by contemporary alternative musician Imogen Heap. Next, the Woman\u2019s Ensemble and the Tribesmen (a men\u2019s group) preformed the War Song Trilogy. The performance ended with the Concert Choir performing David Bowie\u2019s 21 Guns and Moses Hogan\u2019s The Battle of Jericho.<\/p>\n

After the show was concluded Director Throne recognized pianist Ms. Lorgus, band director Scott Litzenberg, and Women\u2019s Ensemble director Joy Meade. \u201cI also want the recognize our large group of graduating Seniors, who will be receiving personalized music folders from the Unionville Music Parents Association,\u201d Throne said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also want to announce that not only did we have a lot of representation at District and Regional Choruses this year, but for the first time in over 20 years we have three members of the All State Chorus: Alex Peterson, Bhaskar Balaji, and Brittany Baumeister,\u201d Throne announced.<\/p>\n

The UHS Chorus does two main shows a year, one in the spring and one in the late fall. They also do a series of other smaller performances at various events throughout the year. There is no fee to attend either the fall or spring concerts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
