{"id":31793,"date":"2016-09-29T09:16:37","date_gmt":"2016-09-29T13:16:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=31793"},"modified":"2016-09-29T09:16:41","modified_gmt":"2016-09-29T13:16:41","slug":"letter-four-reasons-to-vote-for-mcginty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=31793","title":{"rendered":"Letter: Four reasons to vote for McGinty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>To The Editor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Letters1-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1878\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Letters1-3.jpg\" alt=\"letters1\" width=\"200\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a>For U.S. Senate, I believe Katie McGinty is clearly the better choice this November.\u00a0 She understands the concerns of the people of Pennsylvania and will do a better job representing our interests. Her opponent Pat Toomey is running many TV and print ads that obscure some of his very troubling positions.\u00a0 It\u2019s time to expose them.\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On Social Security:\u00a0Toomey has long advocated privatizing Social Security. He even led a multi-million-dollar campaign to encourage privatization when he was president of Club for Growth, a right-wing organization that supports policies that help the rich.\u00a0 Privatizing takes the \u201cSecurity\u201d out of Social Security.\u00a0McGinty\u00a0has pledged to defend it vigorously.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>On Medicare:\u00a0Toomey has voted for legislation that would force deep cuts to Medicare, and raise the eligibility age. His own budget proposal replaced Medicare with a voucher program that would limit the amount of services received.\u00a0McGinty\u00a0thinks that seniors have earned the healthcare security of Medicare and will support this program in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>On Gun Control:\u00a0Toomey has an A rating from the National Rifle Association and voted against closing the terror loophole. He opposes banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.\u00a0McGinty\u00a0believes we need common-sense policies that will help reduce the number of deaths in this country from gun violence.<\/p>\n<p>On Donald Trump:\u00a0Toomey wants to dissociate himself from Donald Trump to appeal to moderate voters. But he won\u2019t disavow Trump for fear of alienating supporters of his own party\u2019s presidential candidate. At this late stage,\u00a0Toomey still hasn\u2019t taken\u00a0a stand. Voters deserve to know. Katie\u00a0McGinty\u2019s\u00a0support for the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton has been unequivocal, and she believes Trump is not fit to\u00a0serve as our president.<\/p>\n<p>In this election, there is a clear alternative to Pat Toomey and his support for policies that will hurt Pennsylvanians. On November 8, your voice is your vote.
