Broad Street, is historic Kennett Square\u2019s latest unique eatery and watering hole.\u00a0 Locally owned and managed, KBC has the feel of a \u2018word of mouth\u2019 destination\u00a0where visitors get the sense, upon approaching KBC\u2019s nondescript Apple Alley entrance, they might be asked to knock three times and provide a secret password before entering.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1169388\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/KBC1-300x225.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1169388\" class=\"wp-image-1169388 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/KBC1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"KBC1\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1169388\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">KBC Owners, Marc and Jossie Osborne flank Executive Chef, Mike Hall.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Kidding aside, (no special knocking or passwords were required of me), owners Jossie and Mark Osborne say their clientele <em>are<\/em> required to love great beer, farm fresh gourmet pub food, and have an appreciation for the vibrant energy of Kennett Square.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Once inside, guests chose self-seating at large farm style tables and bar-side seating.\u00a0 Though, with no reservations accepted and a \u2018just stop on by\u2019 atmosphere, farm tables position guests to dine with other friendly patrons from around the area, adding to KBC\u2019s cool vibe. \u00a0Visitors will appreciate subtle, unique decor touches including hand-made ceramic pendants, vintage beer tap handles, hand-painted wall art and a copper-topped bar.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1169391\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/KBC2-225x300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1169391\" class=\"wp-image-1169391 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/KBC2-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"KBC2\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1169391\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hand-made ceramic pendants illuminate KBC&#8217;s copper topped bar.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Opening KBC was not without investing some serious personal elbow grease. Located in a circa 1920s building that has been re-purposed numerous\u00a0times, the Osbornes faced installing a new drainage system, electric, plumbing and refinishing\u00a0floors;\u00a0often completing the work themselves. \u00a0\u201cThe community was very supportive,\u201d Jossie explains, \u201cWe had visitors nearly daily volunteering to help, donate equipment and cheering us on.\u00a0 This generosity is an example of the kind of community we are a part of.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>KBC offers, on average, about eight custom brewed beers. \u201cKennett Square is home to a very sophisticated beer crowd,\u201d says, Mark, \u201cOur most popular ales are the English style, and which can also be the most challenging to brew well.\u00a0 Right now our Kennett Pale Ale is a top seller.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What goes with great beer?\u00a0 Great food, of course.\u00a0 The Osbornes hired executive chef, Mike Hall, who saw a fantastic opportunity with KBC. \u201cThis is not your ordinary pub food,\u201d says Mike, \u00a0\u00a0\u201cEverything is prepared all fresh, all from scratch, and we source from three local farms.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1169392\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/beertaps-300x225.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1169392\" class=\"wp-image-1169392 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/beertaps-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"beertaps\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1169392\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">KBC&#8217;s vintage beer taps<\/p><\/div>\n<p>When Mark develops a new brew, Mike works closely with him to develop unique farm-to-table fresh food options.\u00a0 \u201cOur food is doing very well,\u201d Mike enthusiastically says, \u201cIf I had to pick top sellers right now they\u2019d be our lobster rolls, candied beer pork belly sandwich, nachos for four, and the pulled pork mac and cheese.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We asked Mike what menu options patrons could look forward to this fall, \u201cFall is a chef\u2019s favorite time of year; fusing the best of late summer harvest and heartier, creative comfort food dishes.\u00a0 KBC patrons can expect to see gourmet pot pies, savory soups and hearty stews toward late fall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jossie says, \u201cThe best part of this location in town is talking with people; it\u2019s awesome\u2026Sunday nights offer a real community atmosphere, we have lots of families who stop by for Sunday dinner and enjoy our live music\u2026often resulting in sing along sessions.
