{"id":25891,"date":"2015-06-16T13:53:14","date_gmt":"2015-06-16T17:53:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=25891"},"modified":"2015-06-16T12:59:40","modified_gmt":"2015-06-16T16:59:40","slug":"on-your-table-nothing-says-fathers-day-like-a-great-burger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=25891","title":{"rendered":"On Your Table: Nothing says Fathers Day like a great burger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><em><strong>Keep it simple for a grilled taste treat<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>By Cathy Branciaroli,<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"><em>Food Correspondent, The Times\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Burgers-300x247.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1126063\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Burgers-300x247.jpg\" alt=\"Burgers\" width=\"300\" height=\"247\" \/><\/a>Show Dad some love on Father&#8217;s Day with grilled burgers.\u00a0 They don\u2019t need to be beef by the way, but with a few easy tips and techniques, anyone can grill perfect burgers in honor of Dad\u2019s big day.<\/p>\n<p>If you decide to make beef burgers, the key to making great steakhouse-style burgers at home is to use 80 percent lean ground beef.\u00a0 The natural fat content makes for a tender burger.\u00a0 Ground chuck, which is taken from the beef shoulder, would be a great choice, or a combination of chuck and ground sirloin.\u00a0 If you purchase freshly ground meat, adding a little salt and pepper is all you need for seasoning.\u00a0 Don\u2019t overmix because it will make the burgers tough.\u00a0 Plan on 1\/3 pound of meat per burger and keep the shaped patties cold in the refrigerator until it\u2019s time to grill.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Some folks love ground chicken or turkey burgers, which need a little more loving care.\u00a0\u00a0 To form the burgers, loosely scoop up a mound of the mixture then gently pat into the burger shape.\u00a0 Make sure not to overcook because these proteins are much leaner than ground meat.\u00a0 They also can do with a little extra seasoning, like a tablespoon of Dijon mustard and a dash of Worchestershire sauce.<\/p>\n<p>Plan on cooking any of these burgers for 4 to 5 minutes per side under medium heat.\u00a0 And never, ever, smash the burgers with the spatula.\u00a0 This causes all those great juices to flow directly into the fire instead of adding to the juiciness of the grilled result.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, you can always up the ante by switching out burger toppings.\u00a0 My husband loves a classic American cheeseburger with American cheese, a tomato slice, diced white onion and mustard.\u00a0 He absolutely will not consider ketchup on top of the bun.\u00a0 Toppings can include sliced avocados, lettuce or even pieces of fruit.\u00a0 It really depends upon your taste and the adventurous nature of your guests.<\/p>\n<p>No matter what you decide to make for Father\u2019s Day, Dad will love any of these preparations.\u00a0 Simple is best and make sure to get someone else to fire up the grill.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Perfect Burgers<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 pound each ground chuck and ground sirloin<\/p>\n<p>1 tablespoon Worchestershire sauce<\/p>\n<p>1 tablespoon Dijon mustard<\/p>\n<p>Salt and pepper to taste<\/p>\n<p>Tomato slices, sweet pickles, diced onion, lettuce and other toppings<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Preparation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Heat the grill.\u00a0 In a large bowl, combine meat and seasonings carefully until just mixed.\u00a0 Shape into six patties and press a thumbprint into the center of each.\u00a0 Cook the patties until they reach the desired temperature, melting cheese slices on top for cheeseburgers.\u00a0 Let rest for about 5 minutes and serve on toasted buns with condiments.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i>Cathy Branciaroli also writes about her adventures in the kitchen on her blog <\/i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.delawaregirleats.typepad.com\/blog\">Delaware Girl Eats<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Keep it simple for a grilled taste treat By Cathy Branciaroli,\u00a0Food Correspondent, The Times\u00a0 Show Dad some love on Father&#8217;s Day with grilled burgers.\u00a0 They don\u2019t need to be beef by the way, but with a few easy tips and techniques, anyone can grill perfect burgers in honor of Dad\u2019s big day.
