{"id":25163,"date":"2015-04-02T14:29:32","date_gmt":"2015-04-02T18:29:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=25163"},"modified":"2015-04-02T14:30:22","modified_gmt":"2015-04-02T18:30:22","slug":"chadds-ford-supervisors-take-up-busy-agenda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=25163","title":{"rendered":"Chadds Ford supervisors take up busy agenda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><em><strong>Senior townhouse project, changes to Wegman&#8217;s plan weighed<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>By Kris Firey-Poling<\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"><em>Correspondent, The Times<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_108043\" style=\"width: 282px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/EdMorris-272x300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-108043\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1080432\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/EdMorris-272x300.jpg\" alt=\"EdMorris\" width=\"272\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-108043\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Developer Ed Morris presents his plan for an assisted living facility at Wednesday&#8217;s Board of Supervisor&#8217;s meeting in Chadds Ford.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>CHADDS FORD \u2014 Creating ordinances and granting requests is tough work, as demonstrated by the Board of Supervisors at Wednesday\u2019s long township Board of Supervisors meeting.<\/p>\n<p>While the length and pace of the meeting might not have been delightful to all in attendance, supervisors explained it was necessary to the process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese decisions will have a lasting impact on the way we do business, so we want to get it right the first time!\u201d\u00a0Supervisor Chair, Frank Murphy said.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Peter Miller, President of Carlino Construction, requested three field changes to the upcoming Brandywine Mills Shopping Center at 1751 Wilmington Pike.\u00a0 The supervisors approved the addition of a landlord room, increased retail space for Wendy\u2019s, and improved buffer space.\u00a0 The center will include Wegmans (scheduled to open in November) and other retail stores, including Chipotle and Starbucks.<\/p>\n<p>Before ending the discussion, Supervisor Samantha Reiner asked Miller for a donation to the <i>Walkable Chadds Ford<\/i> project. Miller pledged $3,000.<\/p>\n<p>According to Reiner, newly appointed liaison, \u201c<i>Walkable Chadds Ford<\/i> will enhance the gateway of Chadds Ford, slow down traffic, and beautify the highway.\u201d \u00a0She believes that the project can also provide a public-private partnership, \u201cas we consider how development will contribute to the project goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In other business, K.Hovnanian Homes continues to work with the Board of Supervisors to create a plan to allow townhouses to be built on township land.\u00a0 The applicant has been working on the text for two years and stated frustration with the process.\u00a0 The Supervisors appointed Land Planner Tom Comitta to assist in helping the applicant make needed changes to their plan, and created a timeline to bring the project to fruition.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Developer Ed Morris presented a sketch of his proposed assisted living facility on Wilmington Pike, on the previously <i>C Harry Before You Buy<\/i> property. The 2.4 acre lot will include the 7300 square foot facility and 57 parking spaces.\u00a0 According to Morris, the average age of residents will be 85 years.\u00a0 Morris requested to move forward with advertising, yet the supervisors need more time to finalize the ordinance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must hold off advertising this ordinance until we can make the appropriate changes to the language.\u00a0 For example, we may want to add rehabilitation facilities,\u201d explained Murphy.<\/p>\n<p>In other items, a Webb Road resident, who is in the process of subdividing his property, questioned the archeological study requirement when he decides to develop his land.\u00a0 He acknowledged the importance of preserving artifacts, yet stated that a study would be cost prohibitive.<\/p>\n<p>After much discussion, the resident agreed to write to the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) prior to any digging, then share their recommendations with the supervisors to discuss next steps.<\/p>\n<p>Vice-Chairman Supervisor George Thorpe acknowledged the resident\u2019s concerns and reinforced the significance of this historic land.<\/p>\n<p>In her manager\u2019s report, Amanda Serock invited residents to the April 25<sup>th<\/sup> Recycle Day event, scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, at the township building.\u00a0 Activities will include shredding, clothing donations, and various recycling activities.<\/p>\n<p>Serock also stated that the recently posted and controversial U-Turn on Heyburn Road and US-1 has been taken down.\u00a0 U-Turns are once again legal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senior townhouse project, changes to Wegman&#8217;s plan weighed By Kris Firey-Poling, Correspondent, The Times CHADDS FORD \u2014 Creating ordinances and granting requests is tough work, as demonstrated by the Board of Supervisors at Wednesday\u2019s long township Board of Supervisors meeting.
