\"MathChalkboard\"<\/a>MALVERN \u2014 Middle school math students\u00a0from Chester County schools will compete in the local contest of the MATHCOUNTS\u00ae<\/sup> Competition Series on Jan. 31, \u00a0at Great Valley High School. The competition has been organized by Chester County PA MATHCOUNTS every year since 1986.<\/p>\n

A total of 22 public, private and religious schools in the county and approximately 170 students will compete.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Chester County schools expected to compete include:\u00a0Avon Grove Charter School,\u00a0Bright Academy,\u00a0Charles F Patton Middle School,\u00a0Devon Preparatory School,\u00a0E.N. Peirce Middle School,\u00a0Fred S Engle Middle School,\u00a0G. A. Stetson Middle School,\u00a0Great Valley Middle School,\u00a0J. R. Fugett Middle School,\u00a0Lionville Middle School,\u00a0Malvern Preparatory School,\u00a0Phoenixville Area Middle School,\u00a0Renaissance Academy Edison School,\u00a0Saint Elizabeth Parish School (Uwchlan),\u00a0Saint Joseph School (Downingtown),\u00a0Saint Norbert School (Paoli),\u00a0Saints Philip & James School (Exton),\u00a0South Brandywine Middle School,\u00a0Tredyffrin Easttown Middle School,\u00a0University Scholars Program,\u00a0Valley Forge Middle School\u00a0and Villa Maria Academy Lower School.<\/p>\n

Teachers and students have been preparing for the competition since the beginning of the school year. Students will compete individually and as teams in written and fast-paced oral matches. Subjects include algebra, probability, statistics and geometry. Winners will advance to the Pennsylvania MATHCOUNTS state competition, to be held in Harrisburg on March 27-28, 2015.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

MATHCOUNTS is a national program designed to improve math skills among U.S. students. The program focuses on middle school students, who are at a crucial stage in developing and sustaining math interest and ability. Students who do not begin developing strong problem-solving, logical thinking and analytical abilities in middle school will face an uphill battle later in life if they wish to pursue a medical, scientific, mathematical, engineering or technical career.<\/p>\n

The 2015 MATHCOUNTS Competition Series will consist of approximately 40,000 students, representing more than 5,500 schools from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U. S. territories and Department of Defense and State Department affiliated schools.<\/p>\n

In 2014 Tredyffrin Easttown Middle School placed second and Valley Forge placed sixth out of the twenty four schools at the Pennsylvania MATHCOUNTS competition with one T\/E student placing 10th<\/sup> out of the 151 students who participated.\u00a0 The top four students from Pennsylvania formed a team which placed fifth overall at the national MATHCOUNTS finals in Walt Disney World, Florida.<\/p>\n

On June 11, 2014 State Rep. Warren Kampf hosted nine students and the coaches from the Valley Forge (Allison Long) and Tredyffrin Easttown (Lisa Stehower) Middle Schools in Harrisburg to recognize their accomplishments, to tour the capital and Whitaker Center.\u00a0 Representative Kampf confirmed he will be attending this year\u2019s competition at Great Valley High School to witness these amazing students in action.<\/p>\n
