Pothole turns into bigger issue; speed limits, u-turn issues discussed<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

CHADDS FORD \u2014 Road maintenance, speed limit, and signage dominated Wednesday night\u2019s township Board of Supervisors meeting.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we thought was a pothole on Heyburn Road near Baltimore Pike is actually a deformed culvert that is losing stability of the road,\u201d said Township Engineer Joseph Mastronardo.<\/p>\n

The cost to replace the culvert is estimated to be $100,000.\u00a0 According to Mastronardo, it needs to be completed in 2015, but an asphalt fix will keep it safe until then.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Vice-Chairman Supervisor George Thorpe added that, “This culvert expense is not included in the 2015 Budget, but still needs to get done.\u201d<\/p>\n

In her manager\u2019s report, Amanda Serock reminded residents that, \u201cWhen it snows, leave your car in the driveway and keep trashcans off the street.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thorpe added that, \u201cDuring the last snowfall, I saw people pushing snow from their driveway out onto the road.\u00a0 This is a problem. If you see this, call the township to have the snow plowed away.\u201d<\/p>\n

The impact of the recently posted U-Turn sign at Heyburn Road has many drivers in a quandary.\u00a0 Resident Gail Force reported that, \u201cState Police are ticketing drivers, and several local residents have been stopped.\u00a0 If we do not take the illegal U-Turn, we must drive many miles out of our way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thorpe acknowledged her frustration and said that the supervisors will look into it.<\/p>\n

Also, the Board of Supervisors wants to reduce speed limits in key commercial and residential areas.\u00a0 They approved and will advertise a 25 mph speed limit on Brandywine Drive.\u00a0 Supervisor Frank Murphy explained how future goals will include limiting residential speeds to 25 mph and posting more signs.<\/p>\n

Supervisors also approved the 2015 property tax rate (that will remain the same), wages and salaries, and the 2015 Budget.<\/p>\n

In other news, Manager Serock announced that the township is using a new program for its ordinances.\u00a0 Residents can now easily review and search ordinances on the website.<\/p>\n

Serock also invited residents to attend the township\u2019s Volunteer Appreciation & Holiday Open House on Thursday, Dec. 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the township building on 10 Ring Road.<\/p>\n

Also, Strategic Alliance Committee Chair Samantha Reiner reported on recent activities of this newly formed group.\u00a0 \u201cWe are working to refine a scope of work for a municipal-wide drainage study to determine areas of concern,\u201d said Reimer.\u00a0 She has met with various stormwater specialists and plans to present drainage study findings early next year.<\/p>\n

Murphy acknowledged Reimer and her committee, stating that, \u201cThe Strategic Alliance Committee is a think tank of qualified people who can focus on big picture, long-term issues to improve our township.\u201d\u00a0 Topics the supervisors asked the committee to research include traffic, enhanced revenue stream opportunities, and recreation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
