Using a three-prong approach to fund-raising, the organization hopes to promote passive fund-raising activities that do not conflict with other fund-raisers that other organizations have, and assist residents in directing untapped funds to efforts associated with promoting physical activity.

As an approved Donor Choice for three local United Way branches (Southern Chester County, Philadelphia/South Jersey, and Delaware), pledges can be designated to the USC’s efforts. Many parents with children in the UCFSD now have a way to put their corporate United Way contributions to
work right in their own school district.

Many of the area’s large corporations also offer matching grant programs to approved 501C-3 organizations like the USC. This way, donors’ tax-deductible contributions are doubled.

The third approach is the Sports Council Affiliate Marketing Program. With residents clicking the USC’s site first, before going to some of their favorite on-line stores like Amazon and Zappos, the Sports Council earns a commission on each and every purchase. Go to www.usportsc.org and read the Support Mission, and just “click it” to be re-directed to your favorite place to shop. With the holiday shopping season just getting started, this is another great way to support the local community.

“It will be important that our member high school sports organizations’ parents recognize the untapped fund-raising potential that we have, so that we can assist them in having more of the kids be active,” Chaclas said. “As we continue to spread the word, and raise funds, our plan is to develop a grant program, very similar to how other district organizations award funds for worthwhile projects, programs, and equipment.”

USC was formed in 2007 to give to give a voice to the co-curricular activities in the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District school district. USC works collaboratively with the UCFSD, and was instrumental in fund-raising that led to the building of the Stadium Field, the renovation of the Fitness Facility and the purchase of medical diagnostic equipment. The organization has evolved since that time and now serves as the non-profit umbrella for 11 of the high school’s varsity sports. This allows the sports to utilize the USC’s non-profit and organizational/reporting guidelines, while still maintaining their financial independence.

To learn more about USC or to make a contribution, please contact Angelo Chaclas (angelochaclas@gmail.com).

The Unionville Sports Council announced Tuesday that Angelo Chaclas had been named as the organization’s new president, replacing USC founder Joe Carney.
