WEST CHESTER \u2014 A Deputy District Attorney has been tabbed to become an Assistant United States Attorney by the U.S Department of Justice.<\/p>\n

Peter Hobart\u00a0has been hired by the United States Department of Justice as a federal prosecutor. He will be an Assistant United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, based in Scranton, officials announced Friday.<\/p>\n

Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan, while saying he was sorry to see Hobart leave his office, expressed pride in having a key member of his office moving to an even greater challenge.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a great honor for the Department of Justice to select one of our prosecutors,” Hogan said in a statement. “The job of a federal prosecutor carries extraordinary responsibilities and requires impeccable credentials. We are sorry to lose Peter Hobart, but recognize that the District Attorney\u2019s Office can be a launching pad to other outstanding positions.\u201d<\/p>\n

For his part, Horbart said his time working in the Chester County District Attorney’s Office taught him much, and he will miss his colleagues and working environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am grateful for lessons learned in my time at the District Attorney\u2019s Office, sad to be leaving my friends and colleagues in Chester County, and humbled by the prospect of serving as an Assistant United States Attorney.\u201d Horbart said.<\/p>\n

Hobart served in the District Attorney\u2019s Office for 13 years. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, his Masters degree from Cambridge University, and his law degree from Villanova University School of Law. As a prosecutor, Hobart handled such high-profile cases as the Phoenixville murder of an immigrant and Operation Telara\u00f1a, the largest drug\u00a0prosecution in the history of Chester County. Hobart also was in charge of grand jury investigations and forfeitures inside the DA\u2019s Office. Hobart is the first member of the District Attorney\u2019s Office to join the Department of Justice in the last decade.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeter\u2019s experience and training in the Chester County District Attorney\u2019s Office makes him a perfect fit for DOJ,” Hogan said. “Our DA\u2019s Office is becoming known around the region for its strength, talent, and unique training. So I would not be surprised to see the Department of Justice looking to hire more Chester County prosecutors in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
