CHADDS FORD \u2014 Jessica Oehler, an Ambassador Girl Scout with Unionville High School Troop 41535, has earned her Gold Award, the highest award within Girl Scouts.<\/p>\n

For Oehler\u2019s project, she decided to help Chadds Ford Elementary School with their games for the Fall Festival. The Fall Festival, originally the May Fair, is a 65 year old tradition started by Betsy Wyeth. It is a PTO run event whose goal is to help build community and offer a fun-filled afternoon with games and food. The May Fair is still held in May and includes the May Pole dance and song performances. It has been the 2nd largest fundraiser for the school with the games as an integral part for the students\u2019 entertainment. As a result of fundraisers such as the Fall Festival, the PTO has been able to provide smartboards, IPads, teaching aids, assemblies, art in action and library books to name a few. <\/p>\n

She renovated 7 games and designed and built a new ring toss game. She solicited 9 volunteers to assist her with this 84 hour project. The number of volunteer hours totaled 72 hours and Jessica had to commit to a minimum of 10 Leadership hours.<\/p>\n

Oehler was a student at Chadds Ford Elementary School\u00a0 from first through fifth grade and said she was excited to give back to the current students at the school and help make the Fall Festival even a better event. Last year, the Fall Festival attracted about 600 people and these games will be able to entertain thousands of children in the years to come.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
