{"id":21334,"date":"2014-03-24T07:27:31","date_gmt":"2014-03-24T11:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=21334"},"modified":"2014-03-24T07:32:28","modified_gmt":"2014-03-24T11:32:28","slug":"barn-project-should-not-move-forward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=21334","title":{"rendered":"Barn project should not move forward"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: right;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>To the Editor:<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Letters1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-752516\" style=\"margin: 4px;\" alt=\"Letters1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Letters1.jpg\" width=\"140\" height=\"98\" \/><\/a>The Teen Center Barn proposal being put forth on the land of the Unionville Chadds Ford School District is not consistent with current zoning and land use classifications and further efforts to secure such approvals should not be encouraged or entertained.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">When the land was acquired the School District stipulated that the parcel was for \u201cproper school purposes, namely, to expand the District\u2019s secondary school campus\u201d.\u00a0 Undertaking a commercial land development plan that would result in a long-term lease to an outside entity whose stated goal is \u201ca teen center\u201d that \u201cwould be a meeting place, offering fun events, crafts, games, in addition to assistance with homework\u201d demonstrates a departure from initial intent.\u00a0 Will such departures continue with a CVS or Walgreens ending up on the corner of Rt. 82 and Doe Run Road?<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Our school board directors are charged with important responsibilities.\u00a0 They work earnestly to foster and oversee the education of our children and manage and maximize limited resources to attain the highest standards possible.\u00a0 Diverting their attention to land development is not in the best interest of the School District.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As the land owner, I would urge the School District to gracefully decline any further engagement on the Barn proposal.\u00a0 Setbacks, fire lanes, parking, storm water runoff and many other land use issues face this proposal.\u00a0 Additional School District costs are present.\u00a0 Good intentions aside, the school board Directors must be circumspect when entering the realm of land developer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: right;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>Glenn L.
