Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan announced two promotions in a news release on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ron Yen, a former deputy district attorney, was promoted to the position of chief deputy district attorney for trials, and Carlos Barraza, previously an assistant district attorney, was named deputy district attorney.<\/p>\n

Yen, the 2012 Prosecutor of the Year, has been with the District Attorney\u2019s Office for 11 years. He has tried a series of high-profile murder cases, included the 2006 homicide of a Coatesville barbershop owner. He received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University and his law degree from Temple University School of Law. Yen will assume the position previously held by Patrick Carmody, who was sworn in Monday, Jan. 6, as a Chester County judge.<\/p>\n

\u201cRon Yen is the perfect fit for chief deputy of trials,\u201d said Hogan. \u201cHe handles a heavy case load of major trials, mentors young prosecutors, and is widely respected by law enforcement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Barraza, who has been with the District Attorney\u2019s Office for 10 years, received his undergraduate degree in mathematics from the University of Connecticut and his law degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Law. As a deputy district attorney, he will supervise the prosecutors who handle preliminary hearings and continue his trial duties.<\/p>\n

\u201cCarlos Barraza has earned his position as a deputy district attorney,\u201d said Hogan. \u201cHe does an outstanding job investigating and trying major cases. He also provides strong guidance to the preliminary hearing prosecutors, who are the first contact that many victims have with the District Attorney\u2019s Office.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
